Background............

Recorded in 1971 at Château d'Hérouville near Paris. Produced by Pierre Lattes and engineered by Gilles Salle. Jean Karakos ("BYG Jean Kastro Kornflakes") was Executive Producer.

The first few French BYG label pressings contained the album's lyrics plus drawings by Daevid Allen - printed on two (white print on a blue background) LP-sized inserts. These were intended to be folded into an 8-page A5 booklet - this one remains unfolded. These 1st pressing inserts are now incredibly difficult to find - especially in nice condition. A few UK 1st pressings of Camembert Electrique came with a reproduction of the original BYG booklet printed in black on a white background.

Cover: Laminated 1st pressing gatefold cover is Excellent outside and Near Mint inside. No writings, doodles or seam splits. Lovely clear wide spine. Nice sheen to the laminate. Light wear only to the edges/corners.

Inserts: Near Mint.

Labels: Near Excellent - see scan.  A little play wear around the spindle holes.

Vinyl: Play tested. Looks and plays VG+ with a few  light hairlines. Only the occasional bit of light crackle here and there and only the odd minor click. One tiny (barely noticeable) skip on my system on Side 2 track "Tried So Hard". None of these minor things interfere with what is possible one of the greatest prog-rock records ever made. This first pressing still sounds fantastic even after 40 years!

Gradings......

Mint - The record itself is in brand new condition with no surface marks or deterioration in sound quality.

Excellent - The record shows some signs of having been played, but there is very little lessening in sound quality.

Very Good - The record has obviously been played many times, but displays no major deterioration in sound quality despite noticeable surface marks and occasional light scratches.

Good - The record has been played so much that the sound quality has noticeably deteriorated, perhaps with some distortion and more significant scratches.

Fair - The record is still just playable but has not been cared for properly and displays considerable surface noise, it may even jump.

Poor - The record will not play properly due to scratches, bad surface noise, etc

Bad - The record is unplayable or might even be broken, and is only of use as a collection filler.
