Gordon : Gordon 1Y1 / 2Y1 1st Press Vertigo 1972
This rare and collectable first pressing is as close to perfect as is possible.  Having played every track in full I can confidently say the clarity, depth and warmth is stunning.  In essence there is no interference, yes a couple of minor ticks but hardly intrusive!  I have graded two tracks as Near Mint+ as Near Mint doesn't seem quite right (!) and all the other as either Mint- or Mint the clarity of sound is that impressive.  I cannot emphasise enough just how pristine the audio is and it easily qualifies as a FINAL UPGRADE archive first pressing.  The vinyl is in superb condition also and has hardly been played in my opinion based on the audio and visual quality and that there is barely any spindle wear.  A stunning example!
This cover rarely escapes wear and this one does have a sticker removal mark on the front as can be seen.  Aside from that there is not too much wear and nothing else really stands out.  The original Vertigo inner is in great condition.
As you can see this first pressing has the earliest stamper codes on it.

Visual description
The vinyl is in lovely condition and still has a stunning glossy sheen with no marks or scratches.  Under a bright light I can only see some faint hairlines and a few wispy ones in one section of S2 but you only see them when you hold the vinyl at a certain angle.  They are superficial and have no impact on the superb audio.  There is no groove or surface wear and the run out grooves are so clean also.  The Vertigo labels are so close to perfect with no marking and barely any spindle wear.
Play Grading
The run in on S1 unbelievably has no background and then the acoustic intro on 'The Saddest Song' plays perfectly.  Waller's opening vocal is close to that with only a couple of minor statics and from then on it plays beautifully with no intrusion.  I cannot overstate just how STUNNING the audio is - there is no underlying static and each note is so clean and so sharply defined.  There is one minor tick during the end instrumental but honestly the clarity and warmth of the audio here is phenomenal.  An example of that is on the long fade out which has no background at all.  Not quite Mint but so so close to it and Near Mint+ is definitely a fair assessment of the audio.
'At The End Of The Day' does indeed go one better and plays with sublime clarity and definition from the first note to the last.  I mean this is Mint with a capital M!  Another long fade out and another one playing with impeccable precision.
A country feel with 'Be Careful There's A Baby In The House' and it plays with stunning quality with no sign of any intrusion.  Waller's more powerful vocal this time is so strong and clear and there is no distortion on the top end.  This also grades as Mint
The gentle intro on 'I Won't Be Your Ruin' plays with incredible clarity without so much as a dust tick.  Wow!  It continues in the same precise way - it has a clean, clinical CD like aesthetic quality and by that I mean literally no intrusion.... but with the warmth and depth you only find on vinyl.  This truly is an a phenomenal version and all the more impressive because it is such a quiet number.  The most 'complete' Mint version that you could ever wish to find, I cannot praise it highly enough.
The entire intro on 'Collection Box' is 'as new' and the opening vocal is equal to that.  The instrumental bridge two minutes in has no background and the following vocal is just as clean.  The next longer instrumental plays with sublime clarity once more and it continues to play with a clarity and definition that is second to none.  This is clearly a record that has hardly been played!  For a final track the playback is so clean and 'fresh' and the long final instrumental exemplifies that.  It builds with immense quality, an almost progressive sound at times, and there is no obvious inner groove distortion as I call it.  The power and depth of the audio is so impressive and of course there is no interference.  The final few acoustic notes play without fault and overall it has to grade as Mint- it is a stunning version.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The run in on S2 is the same as S1 and then the intro on 'Rocky Roads To Clear' plays to perfection.  The first verse is flawless and the second has just one light static tick.  From then on this upbeat tracks plays with clinical precision - a 'busy' number and yet the audio is so clean without any background.  I think Near Mint+ is fair again.
'When This Whole Thing Began' plays exceptional clarity and warmth through every vocal and instrumental section.  A relatively track so there is no hiding place and yet all I 'heard' were a couple of very quiet statics.  Mint-
The intro on 'Stranger With A Black Dove' is perfect and the same applies to the opening vocal.  The first chorus is also 'as new' and this high end standard is kept up as it progresses.  Another vocally driven track it has a great melody and there is not one single fault.  The female vocal really adds to the overall sound and sonically this is stunning.  It's the second track on the album running just shy of 8 minutes and again the clarity, depth and power of the audio is breathtaking!  The acapella end vocal is a case in point, it is stunning!  This classic has to grade as Mint such is the quality.
'Before You Go To Sleep' plays beautifully from the outset.  The quiet intro is 'as new' and the opening vocal is just as impressive.  From then on it plays with sublime quality and, I have to repeat, the clarity of sound for a gentle acoustic number is incredible.  There is no interference basically, no background static which can often be irritating, and I only heard one barely audible tick.  A beautiful Mint- version to conclude this fine album.
The Gatefold & Vertigo Inner Sleeve
The cover is in very good condition and really the only obvious wear is the sticker removal mark you can see on the front.  The top edge has only minimal rubbing but the bottom one does have a little more, no damage though.  The thin pinched spine has retained its original shape so well and remains 100% legible with only a little wear here and there.  The corners have some rubbing but not an excessive amount and the opening edge is very clean with hardly any handling wear.  Aside from that scuff mark the front cover is quite clean with only a little ringwear and some of the usual edge creases next to the spine.  The back cover has only some ringwear, a couple of minor specks and a few creases next to the spine again.  Not a perfect cover but a respectable one.
The original poly-lined Vertigo inner is in great condition with no side splits or tears and barely any marking.  It has hardly any marking apart from the cat number being written on one side.  Only light creasing also.

Postage & Packaging

I will only send items items worldwide via tracked shipping.  This provides 'peace of mind' in case of loss or damage.  The shipping costs are shown below and combined shipping is always offered.  Any over-payment will always be refunded.

The Royal Mail only insure up to a value of £250 so if an item sells for more it may be wise to use a courier service (e.g. Parcelforce or DPD).  An extra insurance premium will be required but I will not know the exact amount until the final sale price is known.  Because of this I will sometimes have to estimate the cost and this will be shown in the listing.  Please wait for the invoice before making payment and if you have any questions please feel free to ask.  Many thanks.

All vinyls are packaged in strong over-sized custom made mailers with plenty of extra cardboard protection.  They are placed inside separate poly-lined inners outside the cover so as to avoid seam splits in transit and then placed inside a PVC sleeve to provide even more protection.  I pride myself on my high quality packaging as my feed confirms and if any customer has any specific requirements I am more than happy to help.

The mailers I use cost £1.00 each and I will use anything between 3-5 cardboard stiffeners which cost approx £0.18 each.  There is also the cost of the poly-lined inner and PVC sleeve to consider, it all adds up!  Not forgetting that eBay take 10% of the shipping fee also!!
