FABULOUS Original U.S. Beatles White Album!
For the Beatle fan who insists on a top-flight collection, this is a gorgeous copy of the original U.S. pressing, Apple SWBO-101 bearing gray-ball number 0778498. It is complete with poster & the four classic Beatle portraits, and all components are in outstanding condition!
Sleeve:
- A jaw-dropper...virginal white, magnificently glossy.
- No dirt, no smudges, no ringwear, and virtually no disc impression.
- You read that right.
- Gray-ball number 0778498.
- The front cover is practically flawless, but to be picky, the back face at the top has a few light brown spots and an area about ¼” by 1” with a handful of tiny gray-colored spots. Under a magnifier, these don’t appear to be damage to the slick, but rather remnants of something that was in contact with the cover. They could possibly be removed, but being the back face, I chose to not risk damaging this otherwise superb cover. There is also a trivial bend to the upper-left ½” corner of the back gatefold...not serious at all, but needs to be mentioned.
- Spine is solid with clear, bold text – about as perfect as you’ll find.
- Inside is glorious; bears “SWBO 101” text only (no Apple copyright). Centerfold slick was split about 1” on each side, but has been neatly repaired.
- All seams are solid and generally fabulous; only minor shelf wear in a couple spots.
- Opening edges are sharp and unfeathered; corners are barely worn at all.
- A gorgeous cover!
Vinyl Visually (viewed under a high-intensity lamp):
- Wonderful!. Would be NM but for a couple of marks, a few hairlines, and a short needle drag on Side 4. Overall, the discs have been gently handled.
- Clean & lovely 1st-press labels (Capitol logo on sliced-apple sides). No writing, wear, or other non-original detractions. Spindle marks, if any, are so light as to be virtually undetectable.
- Proper titles for relevant tracks (Cont’g Story of Bungalow Bill, Ob-la-di, Rev 1/9 & Good Night).
- Unbanded pressing on Disc 1, banded on Disc 2.
Critical Vinyl Play-grade (through headphones):
- Music throughout is clear, bright, and undistorted.
- Disc 1 plays VG++. Light, unobtrusive surface noise and a handful of minor multi-rev ticks indicate it’s seen some play time, but there is no apparent groove wear.
- Disc 2 exhibits fewer ticks and a bit less surface noise. This is particularly true for Side 4, except for the needle drag referenced above, which is audible for several revs a the end of “Cry Baby Cry” and into 1st half of “Rev 9” (an accident caused by someone looking for “Paul is Dead” clues?). Without this drag, it would justify an NM rating, but will stick with strong VG++.
- A wonderful listen overall!
Poster & Pics:
- Pics are in glorious mint condition. The pics are heavy stock & colors are rich & vibrant. No tape stains, scuffs, scratches, or handling marks. You’ll be hard pressed to ever find a nice set, period.
- The poster is outstanding, showing only a few light handling marks. Folds are solid with very minimal wear. The lyric side is still remarkably white.
Paper sleeves are included, although the discs are in new poly sleeve liners.
