Recorded largely at Willie Nelson's Pedernales Studio in 2009, By A Thread’s origins are apparent from the first track, “Broke Down On The Brazos,” named after the nearby river, with a deep Texas stomp for the backbeat and featuring the trademark guitar-work of ZZ Top founder Billy Gibbons. Perhaps less descriptively named, “Steppin’ Lightly” is another burner, set off by the soulful vocals and mind-bending guitar work of Haynes, who proves anew why Rolling Stone named him one of the Top 25 guitarists of all time. Other highlights include the lament “Railroad Boy,” informed by both Celtic tradition and the Mississippi Delta; the expansive psych-rock of "Monday Mourning Meltdown”; and the optimistic "Frozen Fear,” with its lush harmony and even a hint of rocksteady skank. 

DARK SIDE OF THE MULE

Few bands have a reputation for making music as consistently honest, organic, and daring as Gov't Mule. But in curveball mode, and for the first time in its 20-year career, Gov't Mule has delved deep into its vaults to create multiple configurations of its fabled Halloween 2008 performance at the Orpheum Theatre in Boston, MA. The show featured a long and varied set of impassioned, expertly executed Pink Floyd covers (spanning 80-plus minutes) as only the Mule can deliver, with special guest saxophonist Ron Holloway (Dizzy Gillespie, Gil Scott-Heron, Little Feat, Allman Brothers). Now 11 tracks have been remixed and mastered and pressed on a must have limited edition 180g 2LP-set.

GOV’T MULE FEATURING JOHN SCOFIELD SCO-MULE

Fans of both Gov't Mule and John Scofield and their respective genres will finally be able to get their hands and ears on a very special release; the long-awaited Sco-Mule album. In late September 1999, John Scofield teamed with Gov't Mule, then featuring original bass player, the late Allen Woody, along with keyboardist Dr. Dan Matrazzo, in Georgia for two legendary shows of mind-bending live prowess, featuring material ranging from Mule and Scofield original compositions, to James Brown covers and songs made legendary by John Coltrane and Wayne Shorter.  After the passing of Woody, and the start of The Deep End project, the plans to release the live dates were set aside. No audience or soundboard bootleg recordings of these shows exist. But now, for the first time, fans can experience the Sco-Mule mystique first-hand in album form, newly mixed and mastered. The all-instrumental release is a jazz romp laced with rock, soul and funk - available as a 180-gram double-vinyl set.

DUB SIDE OF THE MULE

As Gov’t Mule’s 20th Anniversary rolls on, they're diving into their vault for a series of one-of-a-kind live archival releases that cover a large amount of the history of the band. Recorded during Mule’s fabled New Year Eve 2006 performance at the Beacon Theatre in New York City, Dub Side of the Mule features an entire set with Toots Hibbert, legendary founder of Toots & The Maytals, plus two additional reggae-ified Mule-only songs for a total of 73-minutes of music. Remixed and remastered on limited edition 180g double vinyl, the 12-song set includes many of Toots’ revered songs including: “Pressure Drop,” “54-46 Was My Number,” “Reggae Got Soul,” and a rendition of his version of the Radiohead song, “Let Down.”
