Grand Funk Railroad had been kicking around for a few years before they exploded into mass consciousness in the summer of 1973 with "We're an American Band." Prior to that song, they were just another hard-working Michigan hard rock outfit, but they truly found their voice with that song. To a certain extent, that's because they worked with Todd Rundgren, a producer who made them sound as powerful as a locomotive, but it's also because they wrote a song that was a genuine, bona fide rock & roll anthem. Really, they just put their story to music -- "We're an American band/We'll travel to your town/We'll help you party down" -- but that's fine, because it had a monster hook and a killer chorus. Really, the verses about groupies, one-night stands, and life on the road were just a vehicle, just a way to groove along until they hit the chorus where the entire audience could dance and shout along. There's nothing ironic about the song, which may be why it earned legions of detractors who thought it was one of the dumbest examples of '70s album rock, but that's kind of the point. It was big, dumb, fun rock & roll, and all the Grand Funk wanted to do with it was have it be a soundtrack to a party. And that's what it was, not just in 1973, but all through that decade, the '80s, and the '90s when fellow Michigander Kid Rock revived the tune. He changed the words a bit -- "We'll travel to your town/We'll take your panties down" -- but the song and spirit remained the same.

There are a few surface marks and abrasions, mostly light, although some may be longer than 1.1 4 inches (roughly 3 cms).

(b)          Of course, this is a full-bodied ANALOG recording, and not an inferior, digital recording!!!
