· GRANT GREEN with HANK MOBLEY, LARRY YOUNG AND ELVIN JONES – I WANT TO HOLD YOUR HAND –1965 BLUE NOTE STEREO LP BST-84202
· GENUINE U.S. PRESSING
*** STILL SEALED BLUE NOTE STEREO LP, BELIEVED TO BE A LIBERTY PRESSING CIRCA 1968 (SORRY, WE ARE NOT ENTIRELY CERTAIN) ***
THIS ITEM COMES FROM OUR RECENT ACQUISITION OF ABOUT 35 STILL SEALED BLUE NOTE TITLES WHICH APPEAR TO BE OF THE 1966/67 VINTAGE (LIBERTY ERA), IN WHICH (BASED ON THE SAMPLE OF ABOUT 10 ITEMS WE OPENED) ABOUT 80% WERE LIBERTY PRESSINGS (SOME FIRST PRESSINGS, SOME SECOND) AND ABOUT 20% WERE NEW YORK, USA PRESSINGS (FIRST PRESSINGS). THESE TITLES ALMOST INVARIABLY HAVE LIBERTY INNER SLEEVES INSIDE, BUT SOME OF THEM DO ACTUALLY COME WITH THE ORIGINAL NEW YORK, USA LABELS INSIDE, APPARENTLY BEING THE LAST BATCH OF THE BLUE NOTE'S NEW YORK, USA PRESSINGS JUST BEFORE LIBERTY STARTED USING THEIR OWN VERSION OF THE BLUE NOTE LABEL. WE CAUTION THAT THERE IS A STRONG STATISTICAL POSSIBILITY THAT THIS MAY NOT BE THE FIRST (NEW YORK, USA) PRESSING, BUT, IN ANY EVENT, IT IS NOT EXPECTED TO BE LATER THAN THE SECOND (DIVISION OF LIBERTY) PRESSING CIRCA 1967. FROM WHAT WE COULD DETERMINE, ALL OF THESE STILL SEALED BLUE NOTE TITLES HAVE BEEN MASTERED BY RUDY VAN GELDER AND WILL HAVE HIS STAMP IN THE TRAIL-OFF VINYL, BUT NONE OF THE RECORDS WILL HAVE EITHER DEEP GROOVES OR PLASTYLITE ("EAR") STAMPS .
PLEASE NOTE THAT THE BACK COVER OF THE ALBUM MAKES A POINTED REFERENCE TO THE AVAILABILITY OF THIS TITLE IN BOTH MONO AND STEREO, MEANING THAT THE ALBUM HAD TO HAVE BEEN RELEASED DURING THE MONO ERA WHICH - ON BLUE NOTE TITLES - ENDED IN THE FIRST QUARTER OF 1968, DURING THE SO--CALLED "LIBERTY" ERA. IT WOULD BE EXCEPTIONALLY UNUSUAL FOR THE MONO CATALOG NUMBER TO APPEAR ON TITLES PRESSED AFTER THE MONO TITLES HAVE BEEN DISCONTINUED , WHICH IS WHY WE STRONGLY BELIEVE THAT THE LATEST PRESSING YOU MAY FIND INSIDE IS THE SECOND ("DIVISION OF LIBERTY RECORDS). WE DO NOT EXPECT THAT THE BUYER WILL FIND ANY PRESSING LATER THAN 1968 INSIDE.
· BELIEVED TO BE AN EARLY PRESSING CIRCA 1968 ON WHITE AND BLUE 'BLUE NOTE' LABEL WITH 'A DIVISION OF LIBERTY RECORDS INSCRIPTION ON THE LABEL (WE ARE NOT ENTIRELY SURE; WE CAUTION THAT THIS MAY ALSO BE A UNITED ARTISTS PRESSING CIRCA 1971)
· Recorded (and probably mastered) by ►Rudy Van Gelder
· THIS IS NOT AN IMPORT, RECORD CLUB RELEASE OR A COUNTERFEIT PRESSING.
· ORIGINAL, THICK CARDBOARD COVER (AMERICAN STYLE)
· THICK, HEAVY VINYL PRESSING
(►PLEASE SEE THE IMAGE OF THE COVER, LABEL OR BOTH, SHOWN BELOW)

The third of three sessions Grant Green co-led with modal organist Larry Young and Coltrane drummer Elvin Jones, I Want to Hold Your Hand continues in the soft, easy style of its predecessor, Street of Dreams. This time, however -- as one might guess from the title and cover photo -- the flavor is less reflective and more romantic and outwardly engaging. Part of the reason is tenor saxophonist Hank Mobley, who takes Bobby Hutcherson's place accompanying the core trio. His breathy, sensuous warmth keeps the album simmering at a low boil, and some of the repertoire helps as well, mixing romantic ballad standards (often associated with vocalists) and gently undulating bossa novas. The title track -- yes, the Beatles tune -- is one of the latter, cleverly adapted and arranged into perfectly viable jazz that suits Green's elegant touch with pop standards; the other bossa nova, Jobim's "Corcovado," is given a wonderfully caressing treatment. Even with all the straightforward pop overtones of much of the material, the quartet's playing is still very subtly advanced, both in its rhythmic interaction and the soloists' harmonic choices. Whether augmented by an extra voice or sticking to the basic trio format, the Green/Young/Jones team produced some of the most sophisticated organ/guitar combo music ever waxed, and I Want to Hold Your Hand is the loveliest of the bunch.

· CONDITION:
· RECORD
(IMPORTANT NOTE: unless otherwise noted, ALL records are graded visually, and NOT play-graded!; we grade records under the strong, diffuse room light or discrete sunlight)
(a) THE ALBUM IS STILL FACTORY SEALED AND IS BELIEVED TO BE PERFECTLY MINT. Please note: sealed items are assumed to be mint and are sold as-is, as we have no way of inspecting them. For our policy on still sealed records ►click here (PLEASE READ BEFORE PLACING A BID).
(b) The record is believed to come in its original stock inner sleeve.
(c) The record is apparently pressed on a beautiful, thick, inflexible vinyl, which was usually used for the first or very early pressings. Usually, the sound on such thick vinyl pressings is full-bodied, vivid, and even dramatic. Do not expect to obtain such a majestic analog sound from a digital recording!
(d) Of course, this is a full-bodied ANALOG recording, and not an inferior, digital recording!!!
