This is a very rare double LP from Trademark of Quality. The vinyl appears visually as NM and the cover has creases at the corners and is graded VG (see photos)

When play-testing this it played as it looks visually, clean, with absolutely no surface noise or pops. NM vinyl.

This album will be packaged very securely with the record in its inner sleeve laid against the rear cover in a plastic sleeve, wrapped in bubble wrap and carefully boxed in  a pro record mailer; it will be fully insured at no additional charge to buyer.

The standards relied upon to grade this vinyl record and its cover

I grade the vinyl record and the cover separately. I do not average them into a single Goldmine grade, which I believe has less descriptive value than the grading method employed by Discogs, which is to “Grade the different components of the item separately. For example, the vinyl record can be in Near Mint condition, but the album cover may only be Very Good because it shows signs of wear.” Both grades are stated.

Goldmine gives only one grade for both the vinyl and the cover. Goldmine would grade such a hypothetical record above (NM vinyl and VG cover) as VG+, a condition grade that is less descriptive. If the buyer wants to convert the two graded components into a Goldmine grade, he or she may easily do so.

Although I grade the components separately, I rely on Goldmine’s grading descriptions for both the vinyl and the cover.

SEALED (S). The vinyl is assumed to be in mint condition, never opened. But It’s always possible it could contain a different record, is a different pressing, or was shrink wrapped by someone other than the original publisher. I have a few sealed records, which I note in the description, but grade them as NM (I never grade a record as Mint).

Mint (M). The vinyl is perfect in every way, never played. Although I have a few that have never been played.

Near Mint (NM). NM vinyl is nearly perfect, with no obvious signs of wear and, if play tested, there should be no surface noise.

Goldmine states , “A good description of a NM record is ‘it looks like it just came from a retail store, and it was opened for the first time.’ In other words, it’s nearly perfect. . . . If played, it will do so with no surface noise. (NM records don’t have to be ‘never played’; a record used on an excellent turntable can remain NM after many plays if the disc is properly cared for.”

According to Goldmine, NM records are “shiny, with no visible defects. Writing, stickers or other markings cannot appear on the label, nor can any ‘spindle marks’ from someone trying to blindly put the record on the turntable. Major factory defects also must be absent; If played, it will do so with no surface noise.”

A NM  cover should have no creases, folds, seam splits, or cut-out holes.

Very Good Plus (VG+). VG+vinyl may have scuff marks , very light scratches and signs of some wear but will play almost perfectly, with only barely detectable crackles or pops; a slight noise at the beginning is  allowable.

Goldmine states that “VG+ records may show some slight signs of wear, including light scuffs or very light scratches that do not affect the listening experience. Slight warps that do not affect the sound are OK. Minor signs of handling are OK, too, such as telltale marks around the center hole, but repeated playing has not misshapen the hole.”

A VG+  cover should have only the slightest signs of normal wear.

Goldmine states, “There may be some very light ring wear or discoloration, but it should be barely noticeable. VG+ covers should have only minor wear. A VG+ cover might have some very minor seam wear or a split (less than one inch long) at the bottom, the most vulnerable location. Also, a VG+ cover may have some defacing, such as a cut-out marking.”

Very Good (VG). The vinyl has light scratches, may crackle, pop or make other annoying noises, but only occasionally, and not more loudly than the music.

Goldmine states that with a VG record, “groove wear is evident on sight, as are light scratches deep enough to feel with a fingernail. When played, a VG record has surface noise, and some scratches may be audible, especially in soft passages and during a song’s intro and ending. But the noise will not overpower the music otherwise.”

The VG cover may have normal wear such as ring wear, split seams, creases, wear at the corners, edges and spine.

Goldmine states, “VG covers will have many signs of human handling. Ring wear in the middle or along the edges of the cover where the edge of a record would reside, is obvious, though not overwhelming. . . . Creases might be visible. Seam splitting will be more obvious [than a VG+]; it may appear on all three sides, though it won’t be obvious upon looking. Someone might have written on it or stamped a price tag on it.
