GRAVY TRAIN were a superb five piece prog rock unit that had started life issuing a couple of albums on the coverted Vertigo label before switching to PYE prog rock off shoot, Dawn Records. Their debut was heavily critised for sounding too close for comfort to Jethro Tull but as they matured this comparison ebbed away, with the band assuming a style all of their own - partcularly on the ultra rare 'Ballard Of A Peaceful Man'. The music here is solid progressive rock of the finest early seventies vintage driven by guitars, keyboards and ambitious songwriting pushing them into the premiere league of obscuro Brit proggers right up their with Jonesy, Titus Groan, Pluto and Fields to name but a few suitable and, frankly, not so good comparisons.

This is without doubt the hardest to find Gravy Train album - personally I would say its harder to locate than 'Ballard Of A Peaceful Man'. The other main problem with this album is that the cover is nearly always found trashed due to its fragile construction. Displaying a 'silver foil' finish the printers bloom is terrifically prone to rubbing and most copies that I've seen look truly awful but this one is in very, very nice shape. You'll be hard pressed to find one better.

Vinyl: No spindle marks visible but does displays other signs of use. Numerous surface marks and scuffs including one definite surface scratch which does click for a few revolutions. I gave the album a spin and was surprised at how good it sounds but this is not a mint copy. Visually gardes as Vg+ however playback is closer to Ex.

Cover: Only minor signs of use. Issued in a beautifully designed 'silver foil' finish gatefold cover. Sharp corners, no dings, no bends, no ring wear, no split seams and no creases. Spine is stiff, square and totally uncrushed. Light storage wear and slight ripple effect due to storage in a damp environment. Large (possibly removeable) 'Staircase To The Day' sticker on front. Impossible to find like this after 37 years. Grades as Ex+

I very rarely list records that are in any way scratched- they go in the trash- and I will only list a scratched record if scarcity dictates otherwise but with full disclosure. Often vinyl display 'scuffs' which are surface marks (mostly caused by sliding in and out of the inner sleeve or careless handling) but NOT scratches and they do not have any effect on playback. If the vinyl has a scuff I will try and mention it. Even my Vg+ records are way better than most gradings on ebay- check my feedback for vindication.Gradings are cover/vinyl. All records are sold as-is that means no refunds or returns except in very rare circumstances. I am not a lending libary so don't ask for a refund (I've been burn't in the past with people buying records, taping or CDRing and then returning them and I've also had scratched records returned in place of clean albums).
