GRAVY TRAIN - self titled
A very nice copy of this 1970 UK 1st press prog gem on the highly collectable Vertigo swirl label, with the excellent stereo audio quality being a true highlight
Year/Label : 1970 UK VERTIGO SWIRL Label number : VO 6360023 Matrix numbers : 6360 023 - A, 6360 023 - B (each etched and with no stampers at all, inferring that this really is a very, very early 1st pressing)Excellent (EX) condition jet black sheen vinyl - weighty, flat with just a few extremely faint paper scuffs and extremely wispy hairlines on each side all of which are non-obvious, only detectable with close inspection under a bright light, purely superficial and do not impinge upon the impressive stereo playback at all. Excellent labels with a few small and extremely faint spindle trails adjacent to the centre hole on each and a few tiny handling/storage marks next to the centre hole on the side 2 label (see photos). Clearly this is a record that has been sparingly played, and hard to believe that it is 54 years old! Non-laminated very good (VG) condition outer gatefold sleeve. All colours, photos, text and art work remain nicely intact but there is mild and noticeable scuffing on each of the top and bottom edges and although the spine remains firm there is again intermittent scuffing which becomes more obvious towards both the top and bottom of the spine. Each corner remains a nicely defined right angle but there is mild rubbing on each, and the interior of the gatefold is overall excellent with just some very minor surface creasing towards the top of the spine. There are also just a few small and very mild storage/handling marks and the hint of some very mild ring wear towards the bottom edge of the reverse side. Excellent plus (EX+) stereo audio quality with no skips, jumps, repeats, sticks, interference, distortion or clicks and background crackle is virtually non-existent (I'm always hesitant to state no background crackle at all, especially on a 54 year old record, but it really is negligible in this case). Great tone with crystal clear instrumentation and every track a great listen. Comes with original & nice condition original poly-lined Vertigo swirl inner sleeve, correctly dated ("0470") with a single 8cm seam split in the middle of the right side edge, some minor fraying on the circumference of the front-side die-cut, some mild creasing towards the corners, and some very mild age discolouration towards the edges. An overall impressive condition copy of this hard to find and highly collectable UK 1st press 1970 prog rock gem, with the outstanding audio quality being the true highlight.

Note that I always insert the vinyl into a new plain white poly-lined inner sleeve in order to protect the original during postage, and separate this from the outer sleeve to prevent seam splits. I use thick cardboard stiffeners and take great care in my packaging to ensure as far as possible that these precious records reach their destination in exactly the same condition as when they leave me.

Actually, it looks like this is a copy of the sought after bootleg version (etched matrices are the giveaway), though the fact that the gatefold sleeve is textured indicates it to be a bona fide UK 1st pressing gatefold.
