The Griffin

The World's Filled with Love

Very Rare original US LP released on ABC Records in 1968. 1st US Stereo pressing.

The World's Filled With Love was the only album by The Griffin. The band and their only LP are pretty much forgotten nowadays but that's quite unfortunate because this record includes a couple of really good psychedelic tracks. This album is a mix of psych pop, psych rock and some more basic pop rock material.

The psychedelic parts are the best here. Take a look at songs like "Magic Carpet Ride" (which isn't a Steppenwolf cover by the way), "In My Other Life" and "Lovely Blossom" for example and you'll see what I mean. Very good pop-psychedelia. Great album cover too.

This album is filled with surprises. From the cover, one would surmise that the album was quite psychedelic rock. After dropping the needle, what you are greeted with initially, is fairly light, vocal harmony pop. Though all of the album has great period flavor, the psych influences seem somewhat subdued at first. But once well into the record, a few more uptempo cuts present themselves, and tend to bump the overall impression up a notch or two. Generally speaking, the album is quite inconsistent, but with so much mat'l, there is bound to be at least a few cuts to impress most fans of psychedelia. Just be prepared for mostly pop fare and you shouldn't be disappointed.
