Now his Prototype Years come home to roost on red vinyl: a DJ-ready double LP that collects pivotal tracks from his early Prototype Recordings imprint, where an early label name coincides quite neatly with his. Was drum & bass a madcap scheme of intelligent design after all? Various 12" sonic stabbers buzz like mitre blades, be they Dillinja's 'Silver Blade', Ed Rush & Fierce's 'Locust' and Lemon D's 'City Lights', many previously pressed only as white-label acetates, though they prick the ears here with a newly remastered sharpness. A true opportunity to hear the grit and futurism of early UK breaks before it changed its legal name.
