The BEST KEPT SECRET from the Netherlands!!! This was issued on the V&D department store's own label. It did not sell at all ... aaah .. the injustice!!!!

Groep 1850 was a Dutch psychedelic rock band. The band was founded in 1964 in The Hague by the name Klits and renamed Groep 1850 in 1966, when their debut single, "Misty Night" / "Look Around", appeared on the tiny Yep label.The beat scene in the Hague was renowned with many famous bands like e.g. Shocking Blue. Though few copies were pressed, it established them as one of The Netherlands most original bands (alongside the Outsiders and Q65) and they soon signed to Philips. More singles ensued, in a highly psychedelic vein, including the "Mother No Head". Their debut album, Agemo's Trip To Mother Earth, appeared in late 1968. In The Netherlands its sleeve had a 3-D image on the cover, and came with a pair of 3-D glasses. A UK release (also on Philips) did not help the band gain a footing outside The Netherlands, and Philips dropped them soon afterwards. Their next album, Paradise Now, appeared on the Dutch Discofoon label in 1969 and was only marginally less acid-influenced than its predecessor.

The band disbanded soon afterwards, but was sporadically active through the 1970s. Especially notable was another single, 1971's "Fire" / "Have You Ever Heard?", which appeared on Polydor.

In subsequent years related albums have appeared by S.I.X. (Sjardin's Invisible X-factor), Sjardin's Terrible Surprise and Orange Upstairs.

Group 1850: "Paradise Now" 1969, Holland/Discofoon VD 7063. Disc has some light hairlines but plays EX, it gets a VG++  grade. Laminated flipback cover is EX.  Super clean original of this killer psychedelic LP from the Lowlands! Even better than their debut to my ears and that one was already a tough act to follow. The Dutch Pink Floyd and should have easily achieved the same fame. (I suppose they would have, had they been British). 

The absolute rarity of this album is not to be underestimated. It hardly ever surfaces nowadays. This is an absolutely gorgeous slab of early quality DISCOFOON vinyl which is in splendid  condition!! This has a lovely deep glossy sheen!! Hauntingly beautiful songcraft!!! Immense quality psych/prog album that ticks all the right boxes and incredibly hard to find. I have twentyfive years experience in grading. It doesn't get much better than this!!

!!!!A VERY HARD FIND!!! Most have been bought up by collectors!! This is hardly offered these days!!

In all my years this is only the second time I have come across this PROGMONSTER. Sensational sound quality, I have played this through in its entirety and it was a great joy!!! NO skips or jumps. NO clicks or crackle, this is really a stunning heavy glossy jet black vinyl .The audio is impeccable. Inspected under an intense lightsource and angled.

Vinyl: VG+ (to the eye) .  A sensational find!!! I have played this in FULL twice over> This is the true official 1st press. Actually there was only one press as it never sold at all. Later on some re-issues were made. Where were they coming from trying to sell this in a middle of the road department store??  The replay is ASTOUNDING!!! I first played for a general listen and a second time for a more detailed observation. Only a few  hairlines can be seen under a strong lightsource. Only rarely any light static can be heard, mainly between the tracks on the silent grooves. This vinyl is built like a Rolls Royce with high groovewalls making sure that the audio is just great. Fantastic songcraft!! I am very glad to be able to report that this is a fine slab of vinyl without any problems at all and as such worthy of inclusion of any great prog collection.   Of course NO jumps/clicks/skips etc.

Sleeve:  EX.  The original front laminated sleeve with three flipbacks. It has one tiny catalogue sticker to the left back top (see pic). A breathtaking "pinched" spine as was customary in the late sixties. The edges are deadstraight without wear. A great psychedelic picture to the back. There is no writing and I think it will be a very long time before this super album will come around with again more takers than ever before.

Labels: As you can see there is a name sticker on one label. Other than that the labels are very nice indeed!!
