Description

GUNGA DIN – "Snake Pit" / "Crabcakes" 7" Single (Valise Records #6903, 1967)

Rare Northern Soul / Mod Funk Monster — AUTOGRAPHED BY PHIL MEDLEY!

Up for auction/sale is a phenomenal copy of one of the most sought-after 1960s funk 45s on the iconic Valise Recordsimprint: Gunga Din’s "Snake Pit" b/w "Crabcakes."

Arranged, conducted, produced, and written by the legendary Phil Medley (co-writer of Twist & Shout), this 1967 monster double-sider features raw, driving drums, punchy horn lines, and incredible breakbeat energy that makes it a mandatory spin for rare groove DJs and serious collectors.

💎 Collector's Highlight: Autographed by Legendary Songwriter Phil Medley

This specific copy is a true piece of music history. The B-side label ("Crabcakes") is signed in vintage ballpoint pen: "Best, Phil Medley" along with a handwritten date of "9-24-67"—placing the signature directly in the original month/year of release!

  • The Man Behind the Music: Real name Philip E. Medley (1916–1997), he is best known as the iconic co-writer of the legendary hit "Twist & Shout" as well as a master strings and horns orchestra leader. (Note: Not to be confused with Bill Medley of the Righteous Brothers!)

  • Rarity: Finding a flat-signed original from Phil Medley on his very own regional Valise Records imprint, dated from the exact release window, is exceptionally rare for 1960s Soul & Funk collectors.

🔊 Audio & Visual Condition Breakdown

  • Vinyl (VG+): Beautiful, glossy wax with original sheen. Shows only light, superficial handling marks/sleeve wiggles under bright inspection that do not affect play. Grooves are deep, clean, and deliver dynamic, punchy audio output.

  • Labels: Bright red and yellow colorways. Side A displays light age toning/patina around the yellow perimeter. Side B displays vintage ballpoint ink inscriptions ("BEST", "9-24-67", and "Phil Medley" signature) clearly visible across the red/yellow sections with no tears or label loss.

  • Sleeve: Housed in a fresh, protective paper sleeve and backed with a 4mil poly outer sleeve to prevent seam splits or ring wear during transit.

Shipping & Returns Policy

Professional Packaging
  • Secure Handling: Your record will be shipped in a dedicated, heavy-duty cardboard mailer (LP or 45 specific) with extra cardboard stiffeners to prevent bending or crushing.

  • Pro-Tip Protection: To prevent seam splits during transit, all opened records are shipped with the vinyl removed from the jacket (housed in its inner sleeve) and placed behind the jacket within a 4mil clear poly outer sleeve.

  • 45s: 7" records are shipped with the same level of care in dedicated 7-inch mailers.

Fast & Tracked Shipping
