Description
I am auctioning my original Guns N' Roses debut studio album which still has the original shrink wrap intact, album has never been open; vinyl sleeve among the vinyl record has never been out of this album cover. I consider this album to be brand new in excellent mint condition.
The album was released in July of 1987 by Geffen Records. Topping the Billboard 200 to become the best-selling debut album along with being the 11th best-selling album in the United States it is also one of the best-selling records of all time. At the time of release it was highly criticized but since it is viewed as one of the greatest albums of all time.
The album's original cover art that was based on Robert Williams' painting, "Appetite for Destruction", depicted a robotic rapist about to be punished by a metal avenger was not well received by several music retailers that refused to stock the album, which, in return forced the record company to put the controversial cover art inside and replacing it with an image depicting a Celtic cross and 5 skulls representing the five band members. Time heals controversy as retailers relaxed and the banned art cover was reissued years after the original debut. With the reissue of the album years after it at times makes it difficult to know which album you are getting: the debut year or the reissue year unless you have done the research and know which one is which.
