GunsN' Roses' debut, Appetite for Destruction was a turning point for hard rock inthe late '80s -- it was a dirty, dangerous, and mean record in a time whenheavy metal meant nothing but a good time. On the surface, Guns N' Roses may appear tocelebrate the same things as their peers -- namely, sex, liquor, drugs, androck & roll -- but there is a nasty edge to their songs, since Axl Rose doesn'tsee much fun in the urban sprawl of L.A. and its parade of heavy metal thugs,cheap women, booze, and crime. The music is as nasty as the lyrics, wallowingin a bluesy, metallic hard rock borrowed from Aerosmith, AC/DC, and countlessfaceless hard rock bands of the early '80s. It's a primal, sleazy sound thatadds grit to already grim tales. It also makes Rose's misogyny, fear, and angerhard to dismiss as merely an artistic statement; this is music that soundslived-in. And that's exactly why Appetite for Destruction is such a powerfulrecord -- not only does Rose have fears, but he also is vulnerable,particularly on the power ballad "Sweet Child O' Mine." He also has atalent for conveying the fears and horrors of the decaying inner city, whetherit's on the charging "Welcome to the Jungle," the heroin ode"Mr. Brownstone," or "Paradise City," which simply wantsout. But as good as Rose's lyrics and screeching vocals are, they wouldn't benearly as effective without the twin-guitar interplay of Slash and IzzyStradlin, who spit out riffs and solos better than any band since the RollingStones, and that's what makes Appetite for Destruction the best metal record ofthe late '80s.

(a) WE GRADE THE VINYL AS EXCELLENT.This is one of those albums that are somewhat difficult to grade. It issomewhere between VG++ and Excellent. Afew light abrasions ARE visible, but they are extremely shallow,superficial and only moderatelyvisually distracting (nothing significant).For the most part, the vinyl looksimpeccable without any MAJOR visual flaws or imperfections. Much of theoriginal luster is intact, and the vinyl shines and sparkles almost like new.
(b) The record is pressed on a RELATIVELY thick, inflexible vinyl. This is NOT a thin, flimsy ('dynaflex'type), vinyl, but not the thickest,most rigid vinyl, either.
(c) The record comes in its original, custom, inner sleeve, which is UNIQUEto this album.
