THE PLANETS
BY
GUSTAV HOLST
Published by The Curwen Press in 1927, this is the first reprint.
First published in a limited edition of only 200 numbered copies by Goodwin & Tabb in 1921, this was the first reprint in an open edition.
The Planets is the suite by the Gustav Holst, written between 1914 and 1916. Notable for its elaborate score for large orchestra with some unusual instruments. Its first complete public performance was on October 10, 1920 in Birmingham, with Appleby Matthews conducting. However, an earlier invitation-only premiere occurred during World War I on September 29, 1918 in Londons Royal Albert Hall, conducted by Sir Adrian Boult.
The contents are in excellent condition, the pages clean and unmarked. the binding has taken the wear!. The boards are dust-darkened at the edges and there is wear on the corners and edges. The cloth spine is foxed and worn. the whole however is in generally very good shape.
N.B. This is a large (36 x 26cm) and substantial work, and post is calculated accordingly.
