Description
Gale Record - MUSIC FOR PERCUSSION - Gale GMFD 1-76-004 (TRULY RARE SOUND - EXTRAORDINARY!)
This very special product was produced by Gale, the loudspeaker company, to help demonstrate the extraordinary transient capabilities of their hi-fi products. The wonderful booklet enclosed goes into details about the recording and the music and is actually quite a delight to read for music lover and audiophile alike.
Problem is, it does not explain, at least to me, why a Gale record sounds the way it does.
How good is it?
Well, frankly, better than anything else I have ever heard. Better than an original 1s/1s, better than any Mobile Fidelity or Classic re-issue or test pressing. You name it, it won't hold a candle to a Gale. They simply sound alive---and in the true and real sense of happening in your room.
This disc, of the six that were issued in the '70s, is my favorite. The explosive music selections include TOCCATA FOR PERCUSSION INSTRUMENTS by Carlos Chavez, wherein you delight in chimes, gongs, every size drum imaginable, and glockenspiel, which you can literally "see" when struck.
BACCHANALE is also here, by Alan Hovhaness; his OCTOBER MOUNTAIN FOR PERCUSSION SEXTET; and Jose Serebrier's SYMPHONY FOR PERCUSSION, which has everything but the kitchen sink struck at one time or another.
A treasure of a set, box and booklet pristine, record within playing near mint or better, having all of its original lustre. (Little sign of play.)
NOTE: It has been reported by many an audiophile and music lover that when a Gale record is on, their pets stand stupefied, just staring at the loudspeakers. I truly believe this is because they do not understand why they cannot see what they are hearing.
