Description
THE ELECTRAS (ELT-201, mono)
- Condition : Cover and vinyl are in fair condition. The cover has noticeable storage wear, and the upper and lower seams were completely split and have been scotch-taped. There is a name on front and back in black magic marker near the top edge (my scanner glass is smaller than an LP jacket, you can't see this in the scans). The vinyl looks rough and has a lot of surface scuffs and light scratches, but plays much better than it looks, and is a perfectly enjoyable listen. There is a small return-address label on the side two label, bearing the same name found on the jacket.
- Description : This LP has been well-known for years as a rarity amongst collectors of rare garage bands, New England "prep-rock" LP's, 1960s private pressings and the like. It is an RCA custom pressing. Lately it has gained notoriety because it was discovered that Massachusetts senator and current Democratic presidential nominee JOHN F. KERRY was the bassist on this LP. He is pictured with the other members on back, and referred to in the liner notes. The Electras were a band at St. Paul's School in Concord, New Hampshire, featuring Kerry as a member when he was a student there. This LP was recorded in 1961 or thereabouts- the liners mention events in the fall of 1961. Musically it is typical pre-Beatles era prep-rock instrumental versions of "Ya Ya", "You Can't Sit Down", "Sleepwalk", "Torquay", "Summertime Blues" and the like. I purchased this LP from an antique dealer at a New England flea market earlier this year. Anyway, interesting item for garage collectors as well as political-memorabilia seekers.
- NOTE: I've made this a private auction to protect the privacy of any bidders, as some previous listings of this LP by other sellers during the last year have received media attention in various national venues.
- Buyer pays $6 for priority / insured shipment in USA; foreign billed at approximate cost. Combine multiple wins to save on shipping. PA residents must add 6% sales tax.
- Condition of this item is guraranteed to be as stated in the above description. Grading is strict and visual. All LP's are cleaned on a VPI machine before grading.
- Records are shipped in a cardboard record mailer with sufficient padding, and the disc is removed from the jacket to prevent seamsplits. The picture may have some glare visible from a reflection- this is not a flaw in the item.
- I have been selling records via mail order since 1989. Bid with confidence!
