Baron Elmo proudly presents a stunning document of musical improvisation at its inspired best, from crazed percussionist ROGER TURNER and tenor sax squawker GARRY TODD: Sunday Best, a UK import LP released in 1979 by Derek Bailey and Evan Parker's sacred Incus label, ages out of print and never issued on CD. Turner is an astonishing percussionist whose barrage of rhythm often seems like too much to have been created by one man. He has played and recorded with such luminaries of free improv as Lol Coxhill, Alan Silva, John Russell, Hugh Davies, Toshinori Kondo, Steve Beresford, Phil Minton, Otomo Yoshihide and many more. His joyous clatter is downright exhilarating. Garry Todd is far more obscure, and only seems to appear on this and one other Incus LP. A shame, because his work on Sunday Best is amazing. He favors lightning-quick blurts and squiggles of reedwork that leave plenty of open space for Turner to adorn with his drums. And for the final track, "Brass Sandwich," Turner puts down his sticks and picks up a trombone for a delightful two-horn workout to end the proceedings in fine style. This LP is a very energetic blast of musical spontaneity that explodes with ideas throughout, and will thrill serious Incus fans down to their socks. Don't miss the chance to own a lost masterwork of freeform music at its best! The cover shows mild handling wear (particularly some creasing around the lower left-hand corner), and there is a small Braille strip near the upper left-hand corner, placed there by the previous owner. The LP, however, is in gorgeous, near-mint shape.
