Considered one of the finest cellists ever from France, Gendron was also a teacher, and helped hone Jacqueline du Pre’s fine talent. He also premiered the Prokofiev CELLO CONCERTO, and so impressed the composer, he was granted a three-year performance exclusive for the piece.
That said, this set is amongst his most famous work, the Bach SOLO CELLO SUITES, here played on his adored 18th century Stradivarius, now known as the “Ex-Gendron,” on loan to German cellist, Maria Kliegel.
Box of this edition has suffered some damage, having a corner split and part of the upper box chipped off and missing. More delightful news is that the three records within -- blue label rarities, promo -- are extremely well kept, and will play near mint, if not better, they being first stamper discs. Fact sheet is fine, with timing notations written.
Extraordinary music, here played very well indeed.

Shipping and handling is $5 for up to 5 LPs shipped within the States. Internationally, $15 via airmail for the first LP, $3 each thereafter. (Canada is half that.) Boxes over 4 lbs., add another $6, because First Class is no longer available at that weight, just Priority Mail. Note, too, boxed sets of LPs require more postage.
