AN ELUSIVE PROGMONSTER!!!! IN MY OPINION ONE OF THE TOP 5 PROG ALBUMS EVER MADE!!!!!FIRST PRESS VERTIGO SWIRL LABELS!!!ULTRA RARE!!!

 

 

 THEIR THIRD SLAB OF ULTIMATE PROGRESSIVE GREATNESS.

  In the last few years I have only come across two swirl  copies of this great Gentle Giant album which in my opinion is the pinnacle of musicianship in the early seventies and the best Gentle Giant album together with "Acquiring The Taste".  Gentle Giant will be remembered in centuries to come along with the likes of Beethoven and Mozart!!! The musicianship AND the songcraft are simply sublime!!! Ever since probably only equalled by the likes of the Swedish prog overlords , Opeth.  Sensational sound quality, NO skips or jumps. NO clicks,  NO crackle.  This is really a stunning heavy vinyl with a beautiful deep gloss.

 

I have played this in FULL> The replay is ASTOUNDING!!! I first played for a general listen and a second time for a more in-depth observation. GENTLE GIANT - THREE FRIENDS - VERTIGO UK 1972

SLEEVE - THICK GATEFOLD - VIRTUALLY AS ISSUED WITH ONLY VERY MINIMAL MINI EDGE CREASES A STRONG EX.
   

      Of course there are NO skips, jumps, clicks or sticks. Unbelievably as it may sound there is hardly ever  any  background noise. Impossible to find for this 1972 vinyl!!!   Great but often obtuse supreme melodic songcraft and it was not a wonder that Gentle Giant did not sell to the amount that e.g. Yes and Genesis did.  I played this on my Technics turntable with a Linn cartridge and through my very revealing B&W three way speakers!!! My absolute favourite stand-out track is "Peel the Paint" with its impossibly beautiful ethereal finale,   ... Heaven ...!!!!

 

Vinyl: VG++ but this sounds EX. Under a strong light this has a few hairlines, none deep and certainly NOT sounding. This is a seriously desirable album and very rare in this great condition!!! The replay is simply outstanding!!! The CD re-issue has nothing on this formidable recording!!! For all my regulars in Italy, Russia, Japan and the States, you know who you are, it does not get much better than this. The Swirls of any GENTLE GIANT  album are golddust and very hard indeed to still find!!! Listening to "Peel the Paint" now , .... OUT OF THIS WORLD!!!!!!

 

 

Gatefold sleeve: EX+ Gatefold sleeve. Rarely seen like this!!!! NO CREASES, NO WRITING!! Only very minimal rubbing on the edges.  A lovely sleeve. Only miniscule tiny edge creases that are hard to spot at first sight, all albums of a certain age have this. One tiny round price sticker near the top right, round, 1.5 cm across. This is a very fragile sleeve as all Vertigo sleeves are. Unlaminated and for that reason very vulnerable. Most of these are completely worn. This sleeve is fantastic and one of the best vertigo sleeves I have seen in a long while.

This is a unique investment opportunity!!! Finding this album in any condition at all is nearly impossible. This will sit proudly in any great prog collection.

 

Labels are EX with only minor spindling.
