READ THIS! These records are NOT sold for perfect sound quality. They’re sold for their scarcity and VISUAL grading. They’ve been in storage for a decade, and they WILL play with surface noise that can be addressed with D4 or a VPI cleaning.  I can’t test-play at the minute. Beatles-Rel. 1970 LP George Harrison All Things Must Pass German 1st Press HOT Mix, BONUS!

Germany knew how to press vinyl in the 60’s and 70’s.  They used high-quality thick vinyl stock, pressed the grooves deeply, and then let them cool before packaging them.  This technique resulted in much more dynamic sound reproduction, as well as warp-resistant platters.  What better album to own than George’s triple album masterpiece in this format?

My notes indicate that I A/B’d this copy in 1994 with a Scranton first pressing, and that the sound quality difference is immediate and striking.  The stereo separation is much clearer on this copy, and the front-to-back depth is far more distinct, with instrument placement not lost in Phil Spector’s Wall of Mud.  I did note that the one exception is “Art of Dying,” whose mix I preferred on the Scranton copy as having Ringo’s drums more upfront and crisp in the mix.  I trust that I would still find that to be true.

The poster is missing, and so as compensation, I’m including a rare copy of George’s “Live in Baton Rouge” LP, pressed in virgin vinyl!

Vinyl--- EX/EX.  EX/EX.  EX/EX.  All 6 sides shine like new, but upon close examination, you can see tiny micro lines.

**NOTE:  This set has been in storage for a few decades.  Thicker vinyl tends to dry out more than flexible vinyl does.  If there is surface noise during playback, give it a professional cleaning and a few plays to clear it up.**

Plates--- All 6 sides have Germany’s distinctive “-1” after the machine-stamped catalogue numbers.  Definitely first-day issue.

Box--- VG+.  Beautiful textured cover from Germany, which used thick, durable cardboard.  Light to moderate dirtwear.  Sticker stain at top right corner.  All seams have some specs of missing slick, but NO SPLITS.  Top right corner of the box is broken.

Poster--- None.

Labels--- EX/EX.  EX/EX.  EX/EX.  All 6 sides have very high gloss, which gleam like new.  But all 6 sides also have just a few short, wispy spindle marks.

**Side 3 has the first pressing label error, “APPle Scruffs,” which was corrected on the 1973 reissue.

Apple Inner Sleeves--- EX/EX/EX.  All 3 sleeves show minimal wear.

Generic inner sleeves will be provided, so as not to damage your original Apple inner sleeves en route.

If you’re an audiophile, pick this one up and give it a professional cleaning.  This is still the best analog recording I’ve ever heard of this album, with crisp high-end and soundstage separation far better than the U.S. issue.

Bonus Album:

Hari Georgeson Live in Baton Rouge, 1974

Vinyl--- NM.  Virgin vinyl.  I’ve never played this LP, but it looks like it will be a silky play!

Cover--- EX.  Print is bold and clear on the spine.  1988 issue, not a reproduction.  NO SPLIT SEAMS.

Inner Sleeve--- EX.  High-quality rice paper sleeve is present, NO SPLIT SEAMS.

As these records have been in storage for many years, they will play back with crackling and tics, however; a good moisturizing and cleaning with either D4 Discwasher or a VPI machine always clears them up.  Thanks!)
