All Things Must Pass is a triple album by George Harrison. Recorded and released in 1970, the album was Harrison's first solo work since the break-up of The Beatles in April that year. The original vinyl release featured two LPs of rock songs as well as Apple Jam, a third disc of informal jams. Often credited as rock's first triple album, it was in fact the first by a single act, the multi-artist Woodstock live set having preceded it by six months.
The album was critically acclaimed and, with long stays at number 1 in both the US and the UK, commercially successful. It was certified 6 x platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America in 2001.
I have owned this 3 LP box set from new since its release and next year will be its 50th anniversary!
There are differing opinions amongst collectors and record dealers as to which came first in terms of this box i.e. grey flecked/ “natural/raw” cardboard right hand inner box lid covered by a removable thick WHITE topped corrugated cardboard spacer panel or a completely ORANGE thinner cardboard spacer panel.
This 3 x LP box set was in great demand upon its release and it may well have resulted in 2 manufacturers printing the boxes and being instructed to include a spacer panel to hide the grey flecked/ “natural/raw” cardboard right hand box bottom lid; This 2 printers theory is plausible because if only one printer was used then it is most likely only one coloured spacer would have been used. Two printers would probably want to differentiate in some way. One printer may have used white as a contrast and the other choice of orange to match the left hand side. Following the decision to do away with the spacer panel the printers may have been instructed to use a white paper lining which then later became orange on the last of the first pressings and all second pressings.
My listing is the RARE GREY FLECKED/ “NATURAL RAW” CARDBOARD RIGHT HAND INNER BOX LID covered by a REMOVABLE THICK WHITE TOPPED CORRUGATED CARDBOARD SPACER PANEL to hide what otherwise would have been an unsightly base and also to fill the void in the deeper UK 1st press box which was deeper than the US box.
There is also the question of why a spacer was required in the first place; it is thought that the grey flecked/ “natural/raw” cardboard right hand box bottom lid was used (to save on cost?) and a spacer panel was added due to the depth of the 1st press box, which in the UK was deeper than the US version. The THICK WHITE TOPPED spacer panel being made of thick corrugated cardboard was designed to “fill up” the space or void within the box and cover the unsightly bottom grey flecked/ “natural/raw” cardboard box lid underneath.
This RARE SPACER PANEL version was almost immediately replaced by a WHITE coloured paper right hand side inner bottom lid and the spacer panel dispensed with (again due to the cost of producing the spacer panel compared to merely using thick white paper to line the bottom of the box). Now of course without the spacer there was space within the box in which the vinyl (within the inner sleeves) and poster could move more freely within it and this caused potential damage to the box contents with inner sleeve slits and poster damage as a result but it is thought that the spacer panel was probably dispensed with on cost grounds.
The inner cardboard spacer panel versions were only available with the initial release.
The idea was quickly dropped in favour of a white coloured right hand side (NO SPACER PANEL) to contrast an orange left hand side; later it was decided to have an all-orange inner box which remained on all later UK 1st pressings. Later boxes were imported into the UK from the US to keep up with demand - these were all orange and did not have “Made and printed in Great Britain” on the inner left hand box lid nor did they have the printed in Great Britain” poster of George Harrison on the bottom right hand corner. Later second pressings had an all-orange inner box lid made in the US.
My listing has “MADE AND PRINTED IN GREAT BRITAIN” ON THE INNER LEFT HAND SIDE ORANGE BOX LID together with THE 36” X 24” (90cm X 60cm) “PRINTED IN GREAT BRITAIN” POSTER of George Harrison. Not only does have these and ALL IU MATRIX numbers IT ALSO HAS EXTREMELY RARE and LITTLE KNOWN AND OFTEN DISCARDED THICK WHITE CARDBOARD SPACER ONLY.
Condition - please take a good look at photos of the item taken using an I - PHONEWhen purchased the records were lightly played (on a good turntable) for transfer to cassette - which as I was working away from home was the most convenient way for me to listen to music. The box set was then replaced by CDs. Due to 7 house moves and a 3 .5 year new build project - the box set /albums have spent a lot of time in specialist storage containers.
I have not played the LPs but have inspected condition under strong spotlight lamps.
The Record Box is very clean and undamaged and rated as in EXCELLENT + condition. All six sides of vinyl are in NEAR MINT condition. No Spindle Marks. Inner 3 x record original sleeves are clean, unmarked and in excellent condidion apart from some edge spliting. Overall Grading VERY GOOD +. The poster is in EXCELLENT + condition.

MINT (M) The record itself is in brand new condition with no surface marks or deterioration in sound quality. The cover and any extra items such as the lyric sheet. booklet or poster are in perfect condition.
