George Harrison – All Things Must Pass 1970 1st Press 3 × Vinyl Box set, LP, Album VG++EX
I have used confirmed Discog.com to check what version I have and it is absolutely a 1st press/version and also - I still remember buying it on day of release!!
BOX: Condition: photos show the condition. There is remnant of the original price label. There is some damage to rear lower corner and one corner of cover has split Overall I would still rate as VG+
Discog describes early versions as coming with 'MADE AND PRINTED IN GREAT BRITAIN' on side textured box and this is the version here.
The more common version comes with Made in US box but that is thinner than the UK one I am offering. The one offered is the thick version.
Also Discog describes the original pressings as having a plain (unbleached) cardboard bottom on the inside of the box. All later covers had a white bottom, then later still, an orange bottom. This first issue also came with a filler piece of white corrugated cardboard set in the base of the box and that is version offered (see photo).
This description confirms I am offering first release.
Inner sleeves: Each Inner Sleeve Is In A Different Colour, Each Containing The Lyrics. Record 1 Is Lilac, Record 2 Is Tawny, And Record 3 Is Mustard.
They are all in great condition and I rate all as excellent even though the records have ‘broken’ through a little on opposite edge to main opening.
Note: I lost the large 'Printed in Great Britain' poster when I was a student!!
Vinyl: All 3 discs are in fantastic condition and look as new and I can’t see any surface marks at all.

Notes from DISCOG: All Things Must Pass is a triple album by George Harrison. Recorded and released in 1970, the album was Harrison's first solo work since the break-up of The Beatles in April that year. The original vinyl release featured two LPs of rock songs as well as Apple Jam, a third disc of informal jams. Often credited as rock's first triple album, it was in fact the first by a single act, the multi-artist Woodstock live set having preceded it by six months. In regards to the album's size, Harrison stated: "I didn't have many tunes on Beatles records, so doing an album like All Things Must Pass was like going to the bathroom and letting it out. The album was critically acclaimed and, with long stays at number 1 in both the US and the UK, commercially successful. It was certified 6x platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America in 2001.
I was conscious that I had not reported on any test playing of the records so did that last night.
I can report that this record set on is BETTER than I could have ever imagined and believe my initial listing missed how SUPERB the records actually are.
I am grading by ‘how they actually sound’ – rather than how do they look.
The results show that it is clear that I didn’t play this set much back in the 70’s when after I bought it.
I have a LINN/SME/NAIM based system so pretty demanding on Vinyl and I now update the listing to help any interested bidders:
In addition to visual condition as reported originally (which is not always a guide as to how record sounds) I can report:
There is minimal (and at times none at all) surface noise particularly in the demanding ‘between track’ sections. The findings are what you will hear after a couple of plays on any new disc.
However what is more important is that the music sounds like NEW and has fantastic clarity and is crystal clear and solid and is a joy to listen to. It cannot get any better than this - The music playback is simply SUPERB.
Some additional critical comments on the vinyl:
Side 1: I can’t say much as there was no surface noise between the tracks which for a 45 year old record must be unique. There was one very very light ‘pop’ on Track 2, but that was it.
Side 2: No observable surface noise. Being super critical: there is one light ‘pop’ right at the end of Track 1 just as it stops and there are ca. 3 light ‘pops’ between Tracks 2 and 3 and a few light crackles at start of Track 3 and then clear. One very very light ‘pop’ at end of Track 5 as it is fading out.
Side 3: Pretty much like Side 1. There is one very very light ‘pop’ right at the start of Track 3 and a very very light ‘pop’ on Track 5 (LH channel).
Side 4: A bit of very very light surface crackle at start of Track 1. One very light pop at end of Track 2. Very very very low surface noise between tracks (you have to wanting to hear it).
Sides 5 & 6: I didn’t test play these as I found that the spindle hole was so tight that I saw little point. I doubt I played Sides 5 & 6 more than once when I got this home. That would have been just to see what the Jam meant and didn’t listen again!!
I hope this helps you and gives you confidence that this is probably one of the best Record Sets on offer (unless you want to buy new!!).
