Description
George Wallington Quintet Jazz For The Carriage Trade Prestige LP 7032 RVG Original First Pressing from 1956 with the 446th W 50th NYC address. This is a Mega Rare and Very Scarce Album that comes up at times. During 1956-57 trumpeter Donald Byrd and altoist Phil Woods (both important up-and-coming players) were regular members of pianist George Wallington's quintet. Bassist Teddy Kotick and drummer Art Taylor complete the group on a program that includes three standards ("Our Delight," "Our Love Is Here to Stay" and "What's New"), a pair of Woods originals ("Together We Wail" and "But George") and Frank Foster's "Foster Dulles." The music falls between bebop and hard bop with Woods sounding quite strong while Byrd comes across as a promising (but not yet mature) youngster. A fine example of this somewhat forgotten but talented group, easily recommended to bop collectors. Please refer to the photos of which I tried to capture the details of this copy as best as possible, the description is as follows. Cover is Good to VG- with writing on the cover front and back not too bad of a distraction, The cover is intact on all seams, age discoloration and some foxing. Record labels are clean with minor spindle marks and handling, the vinyl is pretty clean and glossy, exhibits some play and there are a few light marks..one in particular Side A is pictured, you can feel it at touch and in playback there is some clicks as a result of it. The rest of the album plays pretty well as a vintage Jazz Lp. It was test played on a Pioneer PL-105 with Grado cartridge. I think I have priced the album very fairly considering the Rarity and Extremely Hard To Find Nature of finding an Original Copy. Serious Collectors of The Prestige Records Catalog and of The Musicians on this session know what it is.
