Original 1st Press OZ LP released in 1963 on Philips Records. Cat: J1. This album is in MONO. Released in the US as “Spring is sprung”.Over the next few weeks I will be listing some wonderful Jazz titles from a recently acquired Jazz collection. The original owner passed away back in 1985 and his sister decided to hold onto them for sentimental reasons. She had not touched or played them since then (1985!!). The records are in stunning condition for their age many, apart from a few light age spots on the covers, look like they walked off the shelf yesterday. I hope you enjoy viewing and possibly purchasing these wonderful jazz vinyl artifacts as much as i have in preparing them for sale and listening to them!!
This obscure Phillips LP features Gerry Mulligan leading a quartet with his frequent collaborator Bob Brookmeyer, bassist Bill Crow, and drummer Gus Johnson. Mulligan and Brookmeyer always seem to stimulate one another's playing to a high level, and this album is no exception. The group gets into a swinging groove right away with its updated treatment of a Count Basie favorite, "Jive at Five," followed by Mulligan's brisk yet intricate jazz waltz "Four for Three." Brookmeyer switches to piano for the leader's loping "Subterranean Blues." Mulligan takes his place at the keyboard for "Spring Is Sprung," a brisk blues that showcases the valve trombonist extensively, though Mulligan's piano chops shouldn't be discounted. The session wraps with yet another look at Brookmeyer's "Open Country," a great piece of which Mulligan was very fond.
There are a few very light spindle marks on labels. Record has a few very light scuff marks that cause a few very light crackles and is in Near Mint condition. Gloss cover with back flaps has light ring wear, age spots and and a small pen mark on back top right and is in VG++ condition.

Wrapping method: All records are sent in stiff cardboard mailers then wrapped in brown paper and sealed around edges with brown packaging tape. Records are taken out of sleeve to avoid seam splits and ring wear.
Post methods within Australia: All records are posted via Australia Post. Within Australia all items come with a tracking number.
Post method for overseas: All parcels are sent via Australia Post and are sent on a standard airmail service. There are no tracking numbers on these items. If you require a tracking number the item will have to be sent as an insured item which incurs a further postage fee.
