   For sale is The Gerry Mulligan Quartet's What Is There To Say?, released in 1959 by Columbia Records. These have the original red labels with six black CBS logos midway along the outside, three on each side. Because these logos look like eyes, collectors call these albums "6-Eye" Columbia records. In the dead wax between the labels and the last tracks are the matrix numbers 1-A/1-E, indicating that an early stamper was used to make this first edition, a hallmark of state-of-the-art engineering, sought after by collectors and music lovers for their superior sound quality. I bought this used, professionally cleaned it on my VPI HW-17 machine and immediately put this album into a MFSL archival inner sleeve. Doing this protects the integrity of vinyl and any original inner sleeve(s) or insert(s) that may have come with the release. There is no original inner sleeve with this listing. The cover is graded as G+ because of ring wear, corner blunts and a 5" seam split at the top right hand corner and one smaller one in the middle about 1 1/2" long on the bottom of the jacket. The spine is graded as Excellent with only a little color loss on the corners from rubs. The vinyl is visually graded as VG because of faint sleeve marks and some surface scratches. The vinyl is play graded as G+ because of an occasional pop, intermittent  ticking during "Festive Minor" and "Blue Port" and some low level surface noise, most noticeable during the quiet parts of playback. This ticking on "Blue Port" last about four rotations and starts with a drop-out and a whooshing sound that I can't identify. This is still one of the best copies of this rare record that I've ever seen or heard. Being that it is almost 60 years old, you would be hard pressed to find a first pressing in this condition.
