Here we have Giannina Russ (usually a Fonotipia artiste) performing "In Quelle Trine Morbide" (Manon) on a 10" Black G&T GC 53342 with piano by the ever-present M. Cottone.
It was recorded in Milan in October 1903, for goodness sakes, and is the very first item Ms Russ ever recorded at her very first recording session (ripple of applause).
Condition-wise, it plays very well, after a VERY noisy start. There are a few seconds of roaring noises, not-quite covering the opening piano chords and perhaps Ms Russ's first note or two. After that, it plays very well and is acceptable to the ear'ole. We'd rate it (after the racket of the first few seconds) as VG+ or thereabouts. So work it out for yourselves. It is still very enjoyable, and remarkably rare.
Please note that the hand-written sleeve label (see photo) does NOT say "noisy tart". The "s" of "start" is just difficult to see, that's all.
Because of the poor beginning, we're offering this RARE disc at a remarkably reasonable starting price, as an Austerity Special.
