Description
An excellent copy of the 1923 HMV acoustic recording of Gilbert and Sullivan's "HMS Pinafore" on eight 78rpm discs. It is part of a series of complete recordings of nine of the operas. recorded under the direction of Rupert D'Oyly Carte, issued between 1918 and 1924, with a mixture of D'Oyly Carte singers and 'stock' HMV soloists. I have played all the discs and they sound fine. Some of the discs are stamped very faintly "Factory Sample Not For Resale", which suggests that they are a very early issue of this title. There is a slight tear to the canvas spine of the album, which has a small damp mark, which fortunately doesn't affect the splendid album art.
