Gilberto Gil - Luminoso

Recorded in 1999 and originally released in 2006, "Gil Luminoso" presents Gilberto Gil in an intimate, beautiful, and moving way, exploring a format the Bahian artist had dreamed of for a long time: voice and guitar. In hindsight, one could argue that Gil stripped himself in favor of a rebirth, as it was necessary to be reborn for the new millennium, both as an artist and as a human being.

The choice of repertoire and recording took place in just three days. There was a need to show the strength, mystery, and vulnerability of each theme without elaborate arrangements and instrumental embellishments. The material embraced almost four decades of the artist's original compositions, presenting the philosophical and spiritual Gil, the revolutionary tropicalist anthropophagite, the socially engaged post-bossa nova artist, the cosmic fiction writer, and the Afrofuturist Gil.

Having the opportunity to listen to Gil in one of the most intimate records of his long career, now finally on a double LP, is a blessing. And to think that this is just one of the many facets of this artist in his relentless search for new paths.

The Rocinante/Três Selos reissue features a double smoky LP, a double-pasted gatefold cover, a 70x50cm poster with a photo by Mario Cravo Neto, and an 8-page booklet with photos, lyrics, and texts by Caetano Veloso, Bené Fonteles, and Bento Araujo.
