 The cultural influence of beat writer and poet Allen Ginsberg (1926-1997) spanned generations,
after his beginnings in the beat movement in mid-century, and his rise to become
a modern leading light in American letters.

Here on this record he was speaking at the Festival of The Two Worlds in Spoleto, Italy on July 8, 1967.

This album captured Ginsberg's voice during his period as the undisputed master of the hippie movement.

Ginsberg was charged with accusations of violating the Italian penal code.
His response was to show up at the police station gesturing a 'mudra' over the police officer's head to expel demons,
and, like Oscar Wilde before him,  to try to strike a blow for freedom with his poetry for hippies, 
and  for free speech everywhere.
