Gladys Bentley – Ground Hog Blues / Worried Blues

Recorded in New York City 1928
Graded/Plays V to V+
Graded V+ = Average condition in which scuffs and general use has dulled the finish somewhat. Wear is moderate but playing is generally free from distortion and surface noise not overly pronounced
V = Moderate, even wear throughout, but still very playable. Surface noise and scratches audible but not intrusive.
Unfortunately, the label is badly scarred and “Ground Hog Blues” crackles a bit but the record plays okay otherwise.
Gladys Bentley was well known as a male impersonator but also recorded music. This is the first of four outstanding couplings for the Okeh label. She did cut a few others over the years but these are the ones she is remembered for.
