Description
An original 1965, US Capitol 5441 copy in near mint condition!
Should you not know the history of this legendary and musically fabulous and forlorn single (b/w ‘That‘s All Right‘) the song was given to Campbell (before his break to chart stardom) by Beach Boys’ main-man Brian Wilson, who also co-wrote and produced (‘Arranged and conducted’, says the label) the track. Campbell had stepped in for Wilson on live BB duties and this was sort of seen as a ‘thank you’. At the time, a real leap in Wilson’s production skills and totally indicative of the then-burgeoning BB sound.
Lyricist Russ Titelman (misspelt ‘Teitleman’ on label), then a session guitarist, also co-wrote with Carole King and Gerry Goffin and would later acquire Grammy Award status as a producer/songwriter, working with Steve Winwood, George Harrison, Eric Clapton, Paul Simon, James Taylor, Chaka Khan and many more.
In genuine near-mint condition (a couple of very slight surface scuff marks on the vinyl), the single pretty much has the sheen and look it would have had the day it was sold! The yellow and orange label colour is also far more vibrant than my sad camera could capture. Therefore, it’s a very rare opportunity to acquire this musical and physical stunner.
