I've been downsizing my surplus gadgetry etc., brought on following a massive stroke and forced in to early retirement.

I have now reached the most treasured part of my man cave... The Record Collection. I started collecting records over 45 years ago, mainly from the late 60's to early 80's. My first job from leaving school was working in a record shop. This gave me access to back catalogue and imports. Whilst my main interest was (and still is) Classic UK Prog, Dutch and German prog rock the more obscure the better! That job did allow me to explore other genres, so my collection is quite varied. Plus, there are now more modern ways to collect music but I'm really going to miss those sleeves!

Yet another band I first heard when listening to Radio Veronica and RNI back in the days of offshore radio. Despite a long recording and chart history in their native Netherlands, it wasn’t until their single Radar Love broke in the UK that they became better known. This album features a longer version of Radar Love and as there are only five tracks in total you can tell they like the longer tracks. This certainly gives the band the opportunity to expand compositionally and to demonstrate their musicianship is well up to the task. Perhaps the rather raunchy sleeve played a minor part in attracting attention in the record shops!

I will only post to addresses confirmed on both PayPal and eBay so please make sure your addresses are confirmed with both before bidding to avoid any delays in despatch. I prefer to use an insured "signed for" service. Royal Mail's Small Parcel 2nd Class service has ZERO compensation, if signed for it is £50.00. Alternatively, Royal Mail's Special Delivery service includes compensation of up to £500.00 or more if required, which might be safer for purchases over £50.00, or multiple purchases. The choice and RISK is yours. Postage rates shown are for UK bidders only. For other destinations, please ask for a quote for a tracked, insured and signed for service. Matrix Numbers

I have recorded Matrix Numbers exactly as they appear, all the way round the runout. Consider them all STAMPED unless I specifically state ETCHED. I?ve also attempted to photograph some of them but with very mixed results. Hopefully I?ll get better at this, but in the meantime, any tips welcome! Prospective buyers should check these against Discogs and other references BEFORE BIDDING. I?ve already noticed many of my albums have variations from Discogs entries.

Pricing

You need to make your own judgement regarding version and value. My pricing will be based on activity on eBay, Discogs and other sites so I am aware of what a fair market value might be. Remember I am a private collector and not a record dealer, and don?t have their overheads. If I have one USP it?s that everything I sell has had one very careful owner from new. I?m open to REALISTIC OFFERS for fixed price sale, or auctions with a Buy it Now price. You might just be surprised! If you are a fellow collector, I expect you will also know these values. Pay me what you think this album is worth to you.

My Collection

It will take me some time to list my collection and I will be selective to start with. I have mainly UK and EU prog from the 70?s but with a sprinkling of singer/songwriter, soul, Motown and US AOR.There are almost 400 albums and 1000 singles. A modest collection but re-listening, research and photography all takes time. Please follow me or keep checking back to see what?s new. As my collection is personal there may even be a story to tell with some items. Whilst my albums are catalogued in a spreadsheet, I?ve only done about quarter of the singles. Some items I might list later in small collections by artist, others as single items. You can always contact me via eBay if you have a wants list. I can then list those items as a priority.

Packaging

LP?s will be left in their inner sleeve but removed from their outers. Inserts will be left in the main sleeve. I will be using custom packaging which I?ve had to buy in. Currently I?m using an Amazon style B2 rigid CLP 12? cruciform vinyl mailer plus stiffeners. I want albums to arrive in the condition they left me. if you open the mailer carefully, you should be able to re-use it.

Photographs

Will always be of the item for sale unless stated otherwise. They might be straightened and cropped but not manipulated in any other way. I will try to include major flaws so you can use these to help come to a value.

Cleaning

I don?t own a record cleaning machine. All vinyl will be cleaned manually if required using VinylClean liquid and microfibre cloths. I strongly suggest you clean it again to your standards before playing. It might be a good idea to clean your stylus too ?

Playing

Albums will be played one last time in full before listing so I can give an accurate description of how it plays and to ensure there are no skips or excessive noise. A digital copy of this play will be kept so I can prove the condition when it left me and will be deleted when I receive positive feedback. I will do my best to describe any flaws such as wear to sleeves, scuffs, marks or scratches and describe them honestly. Inspection will be carried out under artificial light using a magnifier.

Please note you are bidding for an item that will be anything from 25 to 50 years old, which is antique by some standards so DO NOT expect perfection. Remember VINYL is an inherently FRAGILE product and there will always be the odd pop, hiss and background noise. A lot of this is subjective and will be entirely dependent on your equipment and your hearing. Part of the attraction of vinyl is that it isn?t perfect. If you do place a bid, it is on the strict understanding that you are purchasing the record on its visual description and not how it might play.

Brand new vinyl can have clicks and pops, and worse. I recall when working in the record shop having to open several shrink-wrapped copies of Rod Stewart?s Greatest Hit Album (Whisky tumbler shape) to find a fussy customer a ?flat? one. You should have seen his face when one turned out to have a perfect boot print on it!

Grading

When grading records, I?ll err on the side of caution as I have no wish to overstate the condition of sleeves or vinyl and therefore inflate the value. I will try to photograph any significant wear or damage. If you need more information, please contact me via eBay.

Some albums will have numbers/letters handwritten on the inner sleeve. This is just a location code used by the record shop

Most of my albums have been kept in PVC wallets since purchase and will be sold in them. Our home has always been smoke and pet free and all records have been kept vertical and in dry inside storage. It is possible that some of the glued areas will have dried out over the years. I am not going to make any effort to fix these as I?d rather sell the record in an honest condition. I will ignore these kinds of splits in the grading codes, as I consider this a factor of age, but I will ALWAYS mention this in the table above. I think the quality of the cardboard, printing an any lamination is much more important.

I?ll use the UK Record Collector Grading System below to describe my items. There are some instances where items will fall in between these grades and I may use + or ? to give a more accurate description.

M

Mint

The record itself is in brand new condition with no surface marks or deterioration in sound quality.
The cover and any extra items such as the lyric sheet, booklet or poster are in perfect condition.

Ex

Excellent

The record shows some signs of having been played, but there is very little lessening of sound quality.
The cover and packaging might have slight wear and / or creasing.

VG

Very Good

The record has obviously been played many times, but displays no major deterioration in sound quality, despite noticeable surface marks and the occasional light scratch.

Normal wear and tear on the cover or extra items, without any major defects, is acceptable.

G

Good

The record has been played so much that the sound quality has noticeably deteriorated, perhaps with some distortion and mild scratches.

The cover and contents suffer from folding, scuffing of edges, spine splits, discolouration etc.

F

Fair

The record is still just playable but has not been cared for properly and displays considerable surface noise: it may even jump.

The cover and contents will be badly damaged or partly missing.

P

Poor

The record will not play properly due to scratches, bad surface noise etc.

The cover and contents will be badly damaged or partly missing.

B

Bad

The record is unplayable or might even be broken and is only of use as a collection filler.
