Description
This collector's item has been re-listed at a final closeout price:
Vanguard VRS-1098 is, according to the Canfield Guide, "one of the rarest and most desirable of of all classical LPs. [Valued at $450.] Suppressed before issue -- only a handful exist." Percy Grainger, Grieg's favorite interpreter, plays the Grieg Piano Concerto in A minor, with orchestra conducted by Per Drier in a live performance in Denmark on February 25, 1957. Grainger's flawed performance was the likely reason for the withdrawal of the record; thus, this record is highly-valued more for its extreme rarity rather than its musical value. Side 2 is from that same concert and features Grainger playing his own compositions: Country Gardens, Ramble on Love, Suite on Danish Folk Songs for Orchestra and Piano. This is an excellent NM- copy with a nice cover in VG++ condition.
