"Limited edition of 750. It is with great pleasure that we announce the 10th release from our rare record club, the rare LP by GRANNIE. There were only 99 copies pressed back in 1971 which, over time, made this wonderful example of progressive acid guitar rock blended with folksy aspects so highly collectable that it is valued in the rare record price guide at £1000. Indeed, copies have sold for up to £2000 on eBay. The music on this album has not been heard for over forty years except on low quality bootlegs What we are issuing is a spanking new limited edition re-mastered from the original master tape from 1971 with the full agreement of the band!

What became Grannie formed around guitarist Phil Newton in 1968/69 and was initially a cover band playing gigs around East London. Newton then began to write for the band and they began to master tracks like Leaving, Romany Refrain and Saga Of The Sad Jester in rehearsals. Around this time, Newton saw an advert in the Melody Maker for an all-inclusive deal at David Richardson’s SRT business that offered 8 hours of studio time, a master tape and 99 finished LPs for £100. A booking was made and the line-up that went into the studio some time in 1971 was Phil Newton (lead guitar/vocals), Dave ‘H’ Holland (bass/vocals), Fred Lilley (vocals), Johnny Clark (drums) and the futures Mrs. Newton, Jan Chandler (flute/vocals). There was also an appearance by John ‘Stevie’ Stevenson who played keyboards on one track Coloured Armageddon. the band began to play on the club circuit at venues like The Greyhound, The Marquee and even the Roundhouse although their journey ended when all of their gear - including one of the first mellotrons - was stolen. 

Strictly limited to 750 copies worldwide, re-mastered and re-cut by Fluid mastering, with hand cut & pasted artwork as on the original sleeve!"

My Record Grading

Mint = Vinyl that has not been played and is brand new. Cover is brand new and or sealed.

(NM) NEAR MINT = VINYL nearly perfect, no obvious signs of wear. COVER should have no creases, folds, seam splits, cut-out holes.

(VG+) VERY GOOD PLUS PLUS = VINYL may have scuff marks , very light scratches and signs of some wear but will still play almost perfectly, with only barely detectable crackles or pops; a slight noise at the beginning is  allowable. COVER may only have the slightest signs of normal wear.

(VG) VERY GOOD = VINYL has light scratches, may crackle, pop or make other annoying noises, but only occasionally, and no more loudly than the music. COVER has normal wear such a ring wear and split seams , creases , wear at corners , edges & spine.

(G) GOOD  = VINYL has scratches, may have continuous crackles, pops, significant surface noise. COVER has more than normal wear and tear.

(P) POOR = VINYL is cracked, badly warped, and won't play through without skipping or repeating. COVER barely keeps the lp inside. I will only sell this grading if the record has a some cultural / collectable importance. So, you will rarely see this grading.
