Description
Stamped with VAN ELDER and the EAR in the run-off, this original BLUE NOTE 4139 by GRANT GREEN - AM I BLUE is a true gem and highly sought after by most Jazz Enthusiast. Low starting bid for this masterpiece.
I will do my best to describe most of the condition of this masterpiece, but please check the photos yourself as I took plenty of them so you can judge for yourself. Jump in now an grab this for a steal. These albums go into the thousands.
THE SLEEVE (EX)
The cover or sleeve, as most of us call it, still contains most of it's glossy shine. There are no seem splits and little ring wear. The spine is completely readable. There is edge wear and a little nick in the center top of the spine. The top right corner contains a little bend about 1/4 inch. Overall excellent condition. The last line on the back side of the sleeve contains the 43 West 61st St. New York 23. There is what looks like initials under the HighFidelity on the top left of the back of the sleeve. No other writing of any kind.
THE RECORD (Good +) The record as listed in the title had VAN GELDER stamped in the run-off as well as the EAR (cursive P) which is very view able on both sides. The VAN GELDER stamp is a little harder to see but with a light is very noticeable as well. The label shows New York USA. There is the name Marshall written across the top of both sides of the label. The Label is very white with great blue color. No rips of any kind. There is a scuff mark over the G in the word LONG on side 2. The vinyl itself has quite a few scratches but have played the record through 2 time on 2 different cheaper turntables. Neither of them skipped. There is a few noticable pops, but still sounds great as would expect with an original. It does not contain the deep groove as it's from
This comes with the original Blue Note inner sleeve.
IT'S AN ORIGINAL
One thing common to all original Blue Note pressings from foundation through to the sale of the company in 1966 is the presence of the Plastylite pressing plant handwritten cursive letter “P” in the run-out both sides. All original Blue Note records were pressed by Plastylite (just one exception, see below) and have an ear each side. None is found after 1966 when pressing of Blue Note records was transferred to other plants by Blue Note’s new owners, Liberty Records.

Below are the main etchings commonly found in the vinyl run-out of most Blue Note records: Rudy Van Gelder mastering (initials, later stamp), Plastylite pressing inverted cursive “P”, the custom-client metal “9M”, and van Gelder STEREO master .
