What is this copy:

1981 King 1st issue of Grant Green's awesome quartet session with Sonny Clark and Art Blakey. The contents are the same as Blue Note LT-1032, but GXK-8180 comes with more attractive jacket artwork, as well as more astounding sound reproduction which is reminiscent of the original Van Gelder sound. This GXK-8180 was one of the “Blue Note Unissued Masters” series (GXK-8171 thru GXK-8190), 20 unreleased titles chosen for Japan market, with Japan-only jacket artwork. All titles of this series are extremely rare and very hard to find even in Japan. Japan King LPs, not only Blue Note reissues but also other labels' reissues, are sought after for high fidelity pressings with courteous respects for original issues.

What's inside this LP:

Among many Grant Green unreleased sessions left on Blue Note label, I can say there are two top-notch sessions: the one is May 20, 1964 session with McCoy Tyner and Elvin Jones, released as “Matador” (King GXF-3053); the other is January 13, 1962 session with Sonny Clark and Art Blakey, released as “Nigeria” (Blue Note LT-1032, King GXK-8180). Recently there is a comprehensive 2CD issue “Complete Grant Green With Sonny Clark” available, and among all these Green=Clark tracks, the Jan. 13, 1962 session has superior quality. Sonny Clark's bluesy piano sounds fascinating, and Art Blakey's propulsive drumming is rock-solid. With such tight rhythm section, Grant Green plays very lyrical and earthy single-tone performance - his improvisations are superb. Members consists of Grant Green (g), Sonny Clark (p), Sam Jones (b) and Art Blakey (ds).

Condition of this copy:

Cover: NM- or even mint.
Very light dents on the bottom-right corner (see the photo). But except such a minor defect, this copy is very clean and beautiful. Don't miss the occasion to get the beautiful copy.

Disc: NM- or even mint.
Both sides of the label don't even have a spindle marks. Virtually unplayed. Before I list this copy, I played this copy through from the first track of A-1 to the last track of B-3, and confirmed this copy sounds so clean and beautiful. Great copy indeed.

Paper insert: NM-.
Detailed liner-notes (in Japanese) are printed on it.

OBI (a paper strap which is common in Japanese releases): NM-.
