Description

"I’ve just written and recorded a new album “Walking In The Green Corn.” It’s personal, intimate and I’ve made it with my own two hands in the quietest hours of the night. Stark as ever, this collection is largely drawn from the deep inspirational well of my own Native American heritage, a reservoir which has long informed my songwriting and creative sensibilities at large. This collection of songs was born out of a longing to understand where I come from, the meaning of our traditions and what it means to be a mixed blood Native person today.
The Native story is one of incredible perseverance, a rich and diverse history that is still being written. A proud tribal member of the Muskogee Creek Nation, these songs are my way of honoring my ancestors and to stand and be counted. The title track is inspired by The Green Corn Dance. A custom held by the Creek and other southeastern tribes., it is a time of gratitude and renewal. The potency of metaphor found in indigenous stories is as relevant today as ever. They sing to a deep part of us all.
In my own work, I find that dreams, confession and myth intertwine. Given the deeply personal significance of this collection, I can’t think of a more direct way than PledgeMusic to share this album. It has been my experience that purist means of conveying my music has always been the most satisfying. Often with little means, I’ve made my best work. What I love most is capturing a feeling, a space in time, like lightning in a bottle. That’s what this is about.
“Walking In The Green Corn” was entirely recorded on my own without label support. I’ve never made a more personal and homespun album.
