Description
At the end of February 1969, the Grateful Dead set up a brand new 16 track recording unit in Bill Graham's Fillmore West in anticipation of their first live album, the eventual Live/Dead. They knew the Fillmore West very well, and settled in for four nights with as close to a planned setlist as they ever did in their careers. Each night featured a Dark Star> St Stephen> The Eleven, Mountains of the Moon, Dupree's Diamond Blues and (Turn On Your) Lovelight. This night, the second of the four, begins with the anti-nuclear anthem Morning Dew, old Pigpen-ung blues Good Morning Little Schoolgirl, the rare Doin' That Rag, more Pigpen blues styling on I'm a King Bee before a rousing Lovelight. The full That's It For The Other One Suite leads into the Dark Star sequence that leads into Reverend Gary Davis's haunting Death Don't Have No Mercy. The show closes with a classic primal Dead sequence of Alligator> Drums> Jam> Caution (Do Not Stop On Tracks)> Feedback> We Bid You Goodnight. This was limited to 9000 copies, and is the first time on vinyl. Pressed on 5 180gram black vinyl, with music on nine sides and a special etching on the tenth side. This was released as part of Rhino's celebration of the 50th Anniversary of the Summer of Love of 1969, of which Live/Dead became part of the vibrant soundtrack.
