The Greatest Show On Earth were going to be the UK's answer to Chicago & B, S & Tears and their two albums for Harvest are lost gems of the era. They gained popularity in Europe following the success of the single, ‘Real Cool World’, from their first album in 1970. Their second album 'The Going's Easy' was released in October 1970, but the Greatest Show On Earth found little favour at home and broke up in 1971. Norman Watt-Roy then formed Glencoe and later became a member of Ian Dury’s Blockheads, hence the great rhythms in their songs.

This is the very first pressing with A-1G/B-1G matrices and the earliest 1-G & 1-R stampers of the first few hundred copies pressed, with no EMI credits on the labels!
  The Ernest J. Day Group textured gatefold sleeve is intact & in EX condition, with some light corner/edge wear and some very light storage rubbing/creasing on the outer cover, but there are a couple of small stains on the rear. The spine is intact, slightly worn and fully readable, the Harvest company inner is intact, but yellowed & in VG+ condition.   The record is in visually EX condition, with only a couple of faint sleeve removal hairlines visible on each side and two small pressing marks on side 2. The labels are in EX condition, clean & bright with evidence of a couple of spindle markings on each side.   The sound reproduction is EX to EX+, still clear & precise throughout with definately no skips, sticks or jumps, but the two pressing marks cause some brief distortion twice on track 2, side 2 and there is some low background noise during the run in grooves.
Overall, still a really great, loud and lively listen.   The matrix nos. are; SHVL-783, A-1G stamper 1-G, B-1G stamper 1-R. This is one of the very early pressings of the original 1970 UK stereo 1st issue of this album!
