     Hello! and Welcome to my Auction!  Please take a moment to look at the rare classical records that I have up for your bids!    Up for bids is a very rare and highly sought after early recording by the famous and well-loved Greek singer Yovanna!  Fidelity ten-inch LP 0102 PR (1961) Ioanna Fassou Kalpaxi (Yovanna), born in Amaliada, Greece in 1940, is a Greek singer and writer, known for her participation on behalf of Switzerland in the 1965 Eurovision Song Contest. 

She is the daughter of the famous Greek painter Kostas Fassos. As a little girl she sang in a children's choir and, at the age of eight, she began taking piano and dancing lessons. When she was fourteen -cautiously at first due to her young age- she started taking opera singing lessons at the Music Academy of Athens 

Until 1969 she participated in practically every festival in light music in the cities of Athens and Thessaloniki. In October 1959 she made her first appearance on stage at the First Festival of Light Music, though she had made records and had been broadcast on the radio ever since a young schoolgirl. The following year, 1960, at the Second Festival of Light Music, she won the second prize with the song "Little Summer" From then on she participated regularly at the festivals in Thessaloniki, every time winning a prize. 

At about this time, and after obtaining a prize in Poland, Yovanna began working with the radio of Geneva, Switzerland, and, as its representative, gave a concert "Musique aux Champs Elysees" in many concert-halls all over Europe (France, Italy, Switzerland, Germany, Belgium). She won a contest in 1965, and was chosen to represent Switzerland at the Grand Prix for the Eurovision, held that year in the city of Napoli in Italy, with the song “"Non, a jamais sans toi"”. Her performance was much applauded and won the greater number of votes from the French speaking countries, finishing in eighth place of the 18 competing entries 

In the 1950s and 1960s Yovanna also performed in concerts and became very popular in the Soviet Union and particularly the Republic of Georgia. Her success was tremendous: thousands of fans came to listen to her at the Palais des Sports in Tiflis, Georgia (12.000 every evening), and in the theaters of Moscow and Leningrad. The tickets were sold out weeks before the date of the concerts which were broadcast on TV across the Soviet Union and her records (produced in Soviet studios) were sold in huge numbers. She was particularly popular in Tiflis where during a solemn ceremony she was presented with the city's emblem. Young mothers took to calling their baby daughters Yovanna, after her. Her popularity in Georgia continues to this day. 

During her big career, she produced a great many records in Greece and sang compositions by Theodorakis, and many other famous Greek composers. 
Record condition: V++   plays almost like new on my equipment  Eecord has light non-sounding scratches and sleeving marks... Cover condition: very good, repaired tears on right edge
