Description
Up for auction is one of the holy grail records, which I found at an estate sale on Long Island. It's "The Grey Wizard Am I," by the self-proclaimed Gandalf the Grey, who self-published this release on Grey Wizard Records in 1972 in New York. It's sort of "elven music" (inspired by "The Lord of the Rings" obviously) or psychedelic soft/folk rock. I knew about this record vaguely so I was excited to find an original. Here's a nice description of it I found online:
This album by US (NY) troubadour Gandalf The Grey (or Chris Wilson) is an example of the hippie generation's fascination with the works of J.R.R. Tolkien. Self-penned and self-performed, this somewhat rough recording portrays an attempt to create another version of Middle Earth music. The bonus tracks provide a glimpse of his other albums (pre and post this one), which are more personal in nature. Although obscure, this album definitely worth investigating.
I listened to the one side that has a hairline mark and it's actually pretty good. Interesting music. It's not a high-quality production so the sound isn't perfect, but I thought it sounded fine. Minor pop or two. I doubt you'll find too many out there that are in this nice of shape, not for my opening bid.
I stated condition above but will repeat it here: This is a very nice LP. The cover's still in its original shrinkwrap. It's been opened but was pretty well cared for. Bottom right corner has the slightest beginnings of a split, but otherwise cover is bright and clean. The record is also very clean. One side has a small, very faint hairline mark. Not a scratch, not feelable. I played it to make sure it doesn't skip and it sounds very good. Labels look nice with very minimal play wear. Overall a terrific copy of this rare record. I'm willing to ship overseas, but please check with me first. I do, however, require that overseas bidders assume responsibility for the package once I've shipped it. I've shipped hundreds of packages overseas and most arrive with no problems. But once in awhile, something gets lost.
