This handsome gatefold LP – a superb collector's copy – from Philips (9500 055, French pressing, red/white Tresors Classiques label, stereo) features violinist Arthur Grumiaux and pianist Claudio Arrau's magnificent accounts of Beethoven's Violin Sonatas No. 1 in D Major Op. 12 No. 1 and No. 5 in F Major Op. 24 "Spring", both performances warmly recorded in Amsterdam on 24 March 1975.
This is exalted playing by any measure and all those who treasure the art of the violin (and the piano!) will find much to admire here. The sound is absolutely of Philips' top drawer.
The left interior panel of the gatefold jacket carries insightful liner notes by Marcel Marnat – printed in French only. The memorable cover photo is credited to "Photo X…".
CONDITION:
The gradations of condition I use are as follows: MINT, Near-Mint, Excellent, Very Good, Good, Fair, Poor.
The condition of the jacket is near-MINT. Although there is a small amount of corner wear and a bit of writing to the interior panel, I still regard this as a NM copy. There are no bends, seamsplits, or other defects and the whole remains perfectly solid, bright, glossy, and highly attractive – overall, a truly excellent collector's copy.
The condition of the LP is near-MINT and playback is superb – overall, a truly fine collector's copy.

This LP has been carefully cleaned using a VPI cleaning machine. All LPs are provided with a new Nagaoka (or Nagaoka-style) inner sleeve.
