redgarnett Store ITEM DESCRIPTION:
This beautiful gatefold LP from Philips (835 342 LY, Dutch pressing, red/silver label, stereo, cloth spine) features Arthur Grumiaux’s sublime accounts of Franck’s Violin Sonata in A Major M. 8 and Grieg’s Violin Sonata No. 3 in C minor Op. 45, both recoded with pianist Istvan Hajdu in the warm acoustics of the Bachzaal, Amsterdam, on 20 December 1961.
This is remarkable playing by any measure and Grumiaux’s performances can withstand the most exalted comparisons, be it with Oistrakh, Heifetz, Perlman, et al. Needless to say, the sound is of Philips’ finest analog quality – superbly balanced on a warm soundstage.
The panels of the gatefold jacket contain superlative liner notes (uncredited), printed in both German and French. The striking cover art is similarly uncredited.
CONDITION:
The gradations of condition I use are as follows: MINT, Near-Mint, Excellent, Very Good, Good, Fair, Poor.
The condition of the heavy gatefold jacket is VERY GOOD. There is some edgewear, more so at corners, as well as mild discoloration/aging, but really that is all. There are no bends, seamsplits, owners’ markings, or other defects, and the whole remains solid, brigh, glossy, and highly attractive – overall, a very good collector's copy.
The condition of the LP itself is near-MINT. Although surfaces are not absolutely silent (and thus I have rated it NM vs. MINT) this is a fine copy and playback is superb. If you must have perfect surfaces, then please do not buy this LP. Overall, this rates as a NM collector's copy.

This LP has been carefully cleaned using a VPI cleaning machine. All LPs are provided with a new Nagaoka (or Nagaoka-style) inner sleeve.
