This beautiful LP – a superb collector’s copy – from Epic (LC 3299, US pressing, gold label, mono) features Arthur Grumiaux and Clara Haskil's magical renditions of Mozart's Violin Sonatas in B-flat Major K. 454 and in A Major K. 526, recorded in Vienna in January 1956. This album won the 1957 Grand Prix du Disque.
Wrote the esteemed critic Rob Cowan in the November 2003 issue of The Gramophone:
"I was once told on good authority that Heifetz was a keen admirer of Grumiaux’s art, and little wonder. Like Heifetz, Grumiaux was a master of subtle shading, a disciplined stylist with a warm heart whose immaculate musicianship, silken tone and innate composure benefitted everything he played."
These wonderful performances are touched by a wisdom and humanity that remain deeply affecting, preserved in Philips' finest analog sound, the players ideally balanced in a warm acoustic. Unlike so many collaborations captured on disc, this is one of equals, with Haskil matching Grumiaux bar for bar – an inspired musical partnership that was a model of its kind.
There are authoritative liner notes on the reverse side of the jacket by George Jellinek, provided in English only. The memorable cover photos of Grumiaux and Haskil are uncredited.
CONDITION:
The gradations of condition I use are as follows: MINT, Near-Mint, Excellent, Very Good, Good, Fair, Poor.
The condition of the jacket is near-MINT. There is very minor bumping at corners and light shelfwear, but that is all. There are no seamsplits, bends, or other defects, and the album remains solid, bright, glossy, and highly attractive – overall, a superb collector's copy.
The condition of the LP itself is near-MINT. Although surfaces are not absolutely silent (and thus I have rated it NM vs. MINT) this is a fine copy and playback is superb. If you must have perfect surfaces, then please do not buy this LP. Overall, this rates as a NM collector's copy.

This LP has been carefully cleaned using a VPI cleaning machine. All LPs are provided with a new Nagaoka (or Nagaoka-style) inner sleeve.
