Guidon KREMER - Bach Sonatas & Partitas for violin solo - superb

A very nice 3-LP box of Guidon Kremer playing the Bach Sonatas and Partitas for violin solo

This wonderful and rather uncommon 3LP box set – a beautiful collector's copy – from Ex Libris / Philips (416 106-1, Dutch Philips pressing, silver/red labels, ADD stereo, original inner sleeves and full-size liner notes insert included) preserves Gidon Kremer's extraordinary traversal of Bach's Sonatas and Partitas for Solo Violin BWV 1001-1006, recorded in The Netherlands in March 1980 not long after his arrival in the West. Indeed, the sound is of demonstration quality.

It should be noted that the LPs in this particular edition were pressed by Philips from the original masters. Although the Ex Libris edition does not contain the facsimile score of Bach's original autograph manuscript that was included in the Philips release, in my own opinion, the Ex Libris edition is housed in a more attractive box.

Although Kremer has recently redone these works – in magnificent fashion – for Manfred Eicher's ECM label, these earlier accounts remain very special, boasting a probity married to a stunning virtuosity and beauty of tone – there's really nothing else quite like them. Even if they do not displace your favorite version of these masterworks, their fresh and telling insights will make one think anew, so individual and striking is the playing.
Box, vinyl, insert:  Superb like new condition, seem to be unplayed !!
