MALCOLM X / HEY JUDE ... 7-inch, 45rpm single by HAL SINGER recording engineer BERNARD ESTARDY. Original French BIEM pressing on the POLYDOR label (66 696), from 1969. Seldom offered for sale French-only single by the cult sax player with group. Features the outstanding funky version of the MALCOLM X theme with obsessive bassline / breaks and beats / chicken scratch guitar / latin percussion / hammond / jazz horns and ghostly humming vocals by Hal with female backing singer. There's even some Kung Fu style shouts over the closing bars. Holy grail item, still unknown to many French dealers and collectors on 7-inch format. Big record with Gilles Peterson back in the day too, especially on late '80s pirate radio / select all-dayers and underground jazz club nights. Great for DJs with a louder and alternative 45 issue mix. Superb picture sleeve artwork showing Hal hangin' out on a Parisian street corner beside his poster. B-side theme is an instrumental version of the Lennon - McCartney penned HEY JUDE Beatles anthem. Very rare 45!!!

Vinyl is in strong VG++ condition with a few light scuffs and hairlines. Some light surface noises. The textured card picture sleeve is in strong VG++ condition with minimal light wear. Pen writing to front and back sleeve and one side of label. Ring dirt marks to back sleeve from storage. Some natural age discoloration. Very rare 45!!!
