Here's a really early record from near the dawn of Bluebird Records. The label was started out in 1932, mostly as a budget label for RCA Victor, trying to counter other label's 3-for-a-dollar pricing scheme. As you can see, this isn't the typical Bluebird style (it's dark blue and black) and even has a different numbering scheme – starting off in the 1800 series. You can look for a long time without ever seeing one of these.
This one's a split release with a different artist on each side. Both are along a country line.
HANK HALL is on the other side of the record with "Frivolous 'Frisco Fan," which is from a session on January 9, 1933. This is very country record that tells the story of a rough gal named Fran who's the west-coast equivalent of "Hard Hearted Hanna" and "Lousiville Lou." But we're promised that Fan is far more cruel and is the ultimate heartbreaker. Hank is only accompanied by his guitar and he even manages to work a yodeling break in the middle.
BILL PALMER'S TRIO is on the 'B' side with "Good Old Beer" is from a session on December 29, 1932. He's billed here as SLICK PALMER. The song is a hopeful one about the repeal of Prohibition, which would come a year later on December 5, 1933 when the The 21st Amendment is ratified, repealing the 18th Amendment and bringing back alcohol in America.
