HANK MOBLEY "Soul Station" Blue Note 4031, "P," DG, Mono Vinyl
This is the first edition, 1960, Deep Groove, "RVG" stamped, Laminated Cover, "P" pressing of HANK MOBLEY's "Soul Station" on the "47 West 63rd" labels of Blue Note BLP 4031. Musicians include Hank Mobley – tenor saxophone, Wynton Kelly – piano, Paul Chambers – bass, Art Blakey – drums.
VINYL plays with consistent low to high level surface noise (i.e, static, ?? or
????
, relative to the volume of the music/instruments) with occasional ticks, but the instruments are very dynamic, clean and present with clear transients, powerful extension and full tone. No distortion. No skips. Handful of ticks repeat and/or groovewear present. Both sides have very good gloss. Handful of small hairline marks, 8 feelable. See photos. As with all first pressing Blue Note discs, the powerfully recorded and performed music overcomes imperfections. The Deep Groove "47 West 63rd" labels show fading, wear, stains and spindle marks. LAMINATED COVER is in very good shape. Lower front right corner water damage. Corners worn. Spine immaculate. See photos. Top seam immaculate. Lower seam very minor cracks, otherwise spotless. See photos. "BLUE NOTE RECORDS, 43 West 61st St., New York 23" back jacket clean except for lower left corner, water damage and stain. See photos.
This LP was play-tested on a high-end system consisting of Music Hall MMF-7.3 turntable/Ortofon Bronze cartridge, Heed Audio Elixir integrated amplifier, and Quad S2 speakers (with very revealing ribbon tweeters). ALL RECORDS CLEANED ON VPI INDUSTRY STANDARD VPI 16.5 VINYL CLEANING MACHINE.
